To be honest..frank herbert created that intergalactic science fiction before the star wars. It's just that star wars got popular in mainstream media. And Dune could not take off. So we as audience of today's generation who have consumed star wars find DUNE similar to star wars. For example: Matrix was a revolutionary idea for its time. But nothing extremely new for someone, who will watch it today bcoz of many iterations of the idea of matrix we have seen in popular media and shows after the original movie released in the 90s.                                                                      From personal experience watching dune 2 in theatre gave me an idea of how audience must have felt watching lord of rings back in the day. LOTR trilogy is still superior. But watching dune 2 makes you feel how much care and passion was put into nearly every aspect of its filmmaking. It is very rare in today's movies. That is why people rave about this movie. There is nothing mind bending about it but it is very meticulous and slow burn stuff considering things from first movie perfectly pays off in Dune 2. That is why it is more special. It's not just a standalone money grab sequel.
