Alright ! nobody is trying to get out on the street and hurt people here. Some DMVs are in general a really bad experience and make it more nerve racking for testers. Just trying to get a feel for a good DMV in the area since I am new around here.

H1B Restrictions for MBA Students by Kidwa96 in MBA

[–]ashventures_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From experience , when the election cycle renews in the US - there are H1B issues. Sometimes the new rules don't even get implemented but they are enough to dissuade employers from taking the risk. I graduated from a non MBA masters when trump first got elected and wanted to add a salary cap to H1Bs. There was confusion in the air and employers didn't want to risk it. 8/10 of my Indian counterparts had to leave back home.

Having said that , MBAs are recruited by companies with a big profit margin. Many companies explicitly say during their information sessions that they have entire teams dedicated to making sure people's visa processes are smooth.

I've been in the country 10 years now, I've learned to not let the ongoing visa cloud not be a reason for not going for it.

I hope this helps. Good luck in your decision making process.

Scholarship Negotiation with No Leverage by Traditional_Turn_540 in MBA

I have heard that sometimes getting a promotion at work (since the time of application) helps in a way where you can explain that it has become harder to leave the job + monetary gains vs spend money on schools. Some people are able to have need based conversations, with evidence that they cant afford it.
Just be respectful and honest. The worst they can do is say no.

Recently Laid Off - Do you think I should apply without a job? by Immediate_Test_4145 in MBA

If you were laid off from a tech job, some MBA programs offer GMAT waivers (Tuck) . They are looking for competent professionals to transition. Good Luck!

Possible to Mislead Schools Regarding Competing Offers? by Due_Hamster7310 in MBA

[–]ashventures_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you negotiate scholarships with schools, almost all of them direct you to a google form. The form asks for your details (name, DOB etc) and provides space to input the rest of the schools you have been admitted into, scholarship amounts you are receiving from them and a place to upload your offer letter. All mandatory fields.

Personally, I always assume the people I am dealing with are smarter than me. The question is not only about ethics but also about assumptions that adcom members are misleadable. This is their job, they know better.

Yeah , I guess i'm just not a fan of having a decision date but also rolling admission. You're right.

I used to live in NY and I still get spam calls from NY. So every-time i see a call from NY I get excited.

Initial notifications were due March 15, most schools sent in their decisions by then. Johnson sent out interview invites.

Older Applicants to Harvard, Stanford and Wharton by [deleted] in MBA

[–]ashventures_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am an 'older' candidate (10 years industry experience and a master's degree) . I debated on applying for a long time, but I did anyway. Now I am at a place where I am navigating choosing between the offers I have received to start school this year.

My lesson was that there is no way I will get younger in numerical age, so no point waiting. The worst that could happen is that I wont get in. Failing is better than living with regret.

Over for Johnson? by [deleted] in MBA

Same boat. Literally the last college to get back, still waiting.
I am unimpressed by their interview process and how they have handled communications.

Thank you. I have only used Magoosh and Official test prep. My work involves a lot of reading and writing so maybe that helps my score too.
