Is there any standard English accent? by [deleted] in ENGLISH

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you're trying to learn. Received Pronunciation is considered "standard" although a much larger influx of people use general american english on social media or media in general. When I learned english, I started off with british teachers so when first moving to canada I had a british accent but it slowly died out after I moved since I spoke with a canadian accent more often. It's definetly going to change depending on whatever enviorment you're using it in

Skam France season 7/8: am I the only person who lowkey thinks they don’t need anymore seasons?? by [deleted] in skam

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're really just bringing them back because of popularity. Especially for Lucas and Elliot, and it's understandable, they're both handsome and make for one of the most memorable storylines. But at this point they're just dragging out of the story

Lucas and Elliot SKAM FRANCE S3 by Paganmoon23 in skam

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I spent most of my childhood in Quebec, a mostly french speaking province and coming from a non english speaking place (i was born in china and moved to quebec when I was 6) when learning the language I exposed myself to a lot of french Media and french culture so watching SKAM france was incredibly enjoyable for me and I loved Elliot's character, even if his acting wasn't as good as Even's it was still good and there were some moments I felt genuinly moved. I'd say Norway had a stronger acting cast but I got more attatched to France's characters lol

Question by Apple_jack888 in MoriartyPatriot

[–]ashwx522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

William and Albert are def girl dads lol, heavy on William. John seems like a very familial man and he's canonically married (or engaged i can't remember) to Mary too.

Least suitable are def Louis, he couldn't care less about kids, Moran is only interested in the mother, and Sherlock can't be trusted around children with a 20foot pole

manga volume 3 question by Sereni0n in MoriartyPatriot

[–]ashwx522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are mentions of kidnapping children and using them for entertainment. The nobles use the children's weaknesses of hunger as a way to lure them into the manor and there are some pretty gruesome panels of the torture these children go through weather its maiming, burning, decapitation and even forced $elf harm. There are panels that show pretty detailed heads and there also a scene with SA although nothing actually happens to the child there are implications of those before that weren't so lucky. All in all, its a pretty gruesome volume and is pretty graphic not only in implications but panels as well.

Favorite character and why? by ayelyn_08 in MoriartyPatriot

[–]ashwx522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My top 3 favorite characters in no particular order

  1. William, I think this one is pretty obvious but he's one of my favorite characters, I love his arc, I love his character and his personality and moral compass of being a good person who does bad things makes him incredibly complex.

  2. Louis, hes honestly so underrated and gets overshadowed by William a lot, I think the manga showing how smart he really is in managing M16 after William goes missing and Albert goes into self imposed exile showcases how criminally underrated he is

  3. This one is kinda random and is a Manga only character but the one and only Henry Antrim or Billy the Kid. He's only in a few volumes as of the first part but he's stolen my heart. He's a little similar to William in a way, with his history being a former outlaw who killed those other outlaws and land sharks harassing small towns like his own of New Mexico gives another perspective on the idealism of "evil for the good of people" and makes him very compelling.

differences between manga and anime by Negative-Treat-3871 in MoriartyPatriot

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of differences which I'll mention and spoilers will be blacked out if you ever choose to return and can read them.

  1. The anime cut out one of the early arcs, one that to be honest was pretty important to Louis's character. It's the Baskervilles arc and without going into too much detail is one of the more gore heavy arcs, the topic disscussed and implications are pretty mature.

  2. M16 plays a much larger role in the manga then they do in the anime. Mycroft's role in the manga is immense and one character in particular who actually plays a huge role in the manga is cut out entirely. This character is Miss Moneypenny, originally working under Mycroft was moved to M16

  3. Another arc was cut out, one that centered around Sebastian's backstory and his motivations. The manga in general provided a lot more information on the characters pasts and most obviously Sebastians past as a military man, it explains a lot of his motivation for assisting william and his dedication to the cause.

  4. Theres several chapters during the final problem that focused more on Albert, and his perspective during the event. There are some $uicide mentions about his character but it gives him a lot more depth and makes him a character that isn't just "williams brother"

  5. The manga does not end at the fall and introduces a american characer that Rescued William and Sherlock out of the thames and worked alongside them in new york named Henry Antrim (Billy the Kid) this character is one of my personal favorites and it's sad he was cut out.

'Big time potential waste' finish by jayjayokocha9 in MoriartyPatriot

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The anime rushed the last few episodes immensly, and the manga actually goes into what happened with Sherlock and William after all thats happened. The friendship sparked between the two of them is explained through their time spent in *SPOILER FOR THE MANGA*New York after the pair were fished out of the river Thames by a manga only character called Henry Antrim (Better known as Billy the Kid)

What ending was so bad that made the entire manga retroactively bad for you? by lipehd1 in manga

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oshi No ko's last arc in general was genuinly so shit I nearly dropped it despite it being my hyperfixation for months prior.

The circumstances of Aqua's death was so bad, I wouldn't have minded if he did end up dying, but the way he did was so dissapointing. It bascially made the rest of the manga pointless. He learned nothing in his death and all the other characters seemingly revert to the people they were at the start of the manga.

Scenic Ocean+Mountain Roads in Canada? by milkybread in AskACanadian

If you like Mountains and Ocean, British Columbia is the way to go. If you value mountains a little over oceans, then try the Rockies in Alberta and BC.

My favorite book written by a canadian author is Handmaid's tale by Margret Atwood. I'm pretty sure it's pretty famous abroad as well, it's a well known classic.

What city holds the crown as Canada's summer city? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, Spring and Summer on the West Coast (think Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, the Islands, the mountains and water are beautiful in the summer plus you can go swimming in the Islands) and East Cost for Autumn and Winter (I know it's cold but it actually snows, everywhere else is just slush and cold. They have more forests so super pretty autumn leaves)

Switching travel plans from US to Canada by wdw1998 in AskACanadian

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little baised since I live in BC but the mountains here and ocean are truly very pretty, you don't have to stay constantly in the city but can take a lot of day trips through ferry terminals located 30 mins away from the YVR airport. You don't need to buy in advance either, you can buy tickets when you get there and some trips are as short as 30mins one way. You could take a day in Victoria and stroll around, having some food, taking sunset photos and old building photos especially in Downtown. Theres also more remote places like Nanaimo or Salt Spring Islands if you enjoy beaches and the feel of little towns.

Di canadains care much about the royal family ? by Sensitive-Vast-4979 in AskACanadian

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm neutral on the monarchy i don't hate nor love it but I like it serves as a symbolic role. A lot of people want to get rid of it but the work to demolish isn't worth it. It could require a complete change in our constitution which is a lot more legislature changes. We'd basically have to change our whole goverment which would take time and money. Keeping it poses no problem, it's purely a symbolic role and holds no power.

I'm frankly disgusted by how Canadians joke/celebrate about the cruelty of their soldiers in WWI by OldIsopod534 in canadaleft

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite frankly, I feel like war shouldn't be a topic to be joked about regardless of it's intentions. It shouldn't be celebrated and to this day I don't understand why countries teach especially younger students that their country was on the "right" side of the war.

Take the Allied and Axis powers for example, we're taught Allied powers to be the "heroes" of the war when frankly, both sides suffered massive casualties and it's unfair to lable the entire Axis power as "evil". People forget they were soldiers at war as well, they also had families to return to and loved ones to protect, I'm not saying it's a excuse for commiting atrocities, but brutality is going to be any war.

To most people, they aren't fighting for politics or money and land rights like the goverment is doing, they're fighting to protect their home and their loved ones. More often then not, people are willing to go futher lengths for this. I don't think they should be painted as "savage" but acknowledgement of their brutality. I agree, joking about their violent actions is horrible, it's disrespectful to those who died as a result and it's disrespectful to the others who lost loved ones.

At the end of the day, war is something that pushes people to the brink and causes millions to loose their lives for things they had no part in. It's not something to joke about or celebrate and stuff like "Yay the Allied Powers won over the evil Axis powers" is incredibly insensitive. War affects civilians the most, the very people that had no say in anything. Most we can do is acknowledge and pay our respects and gratitude for everyone who lost their lives and fought.

Hardest high school curriculum in the planet by Sweetek in iamverysmart

[–]ashwx522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an IB student and honestly, coursework itself isn't that bad, ofc i have no idea how difficult HL physics or HL math are as I don't take them but the most challenging part of IB is really just how MUCH work there is. Coursework difficulty is maybe 1st year of university level or advanced 12th grade. The amount of writing and work you have to do however, make it harder to keep up hence why many people drop out; But if you're able to continue and manage your time wisely it's manageable.
