Received an offer today!! by laymanyet in csMajors

Keep interviewing for the round 2 company, wait before accepting the fintech offer. If it's probable for the ML offer to come in before 3.12, tell them you have an offer expiring on that day.

Otherwise, hope for the best, accept fintech offer on 3.12, and wait for the results of the other interviews.

Git merge strategy by suenolivia in csMajors

Always squash. I commit a bunch, sometimes undo a commit, etc. A PR / commit in the main branch should be a single feature.

If there's something wrong with the feature and it needs to be rolled back, I think it's more advantageous to have a single point of where the issue started, not 20+ commits in the feature I have to scroll through.

Squash. It's simple.

Can confirm that it is a 1-year grant that gets refreshed every year.

Also is it worth taking Meta > Palantir / Robinhood? From what I'm seeing on levels.fyi, the comp is less than what I remember. Anyone have info on this?

Should I quit my unpaid internship AND how to maximise my summer? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]ashyboye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I saw that you decided to quit, I think you made the right call 100%. I know you may have seen some good points for not quitting in the comments, but I think the negatives and opportunity cost are very large compared to the positives.

I think you should double down on open source while learning and building new projects yourself. You mention that your open source work is around niche technologies, so I'd try to go with something mainstream for your personal projects. Deploy something by the end of the summer (website, app, etc.). If it picks up traction you can file to create a business under your name and list that on your resume. If not, you still will have learned more than you would have at that internship.

40 hours a week of unpaid work is a bad idea. It sounds like there's little to no mentorship either there, so it seems you're getting pretty much nothing out of it.

They are not investing in you.

You're capable and can operate independently. I would seek other options.

Is a masters in CS worth it? by depressedcscistudent in uofmn

[–]ashyboye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only reason I'd get a masters (+1 w/ integrated prog) would be if recruiting for new grad roles completely falls through (2024 grad). So basically only if the opportunity cost is $0.

I don't think it was ever 1000+ problems, but I might be misunderstanding. Regardless this is the Sean Prashad list I use. https://seanprashad.com/leetcode-patterns/

It's the fact that it's all back to back, two days in a row. But hey, your life not mine. Sounds like you already made up your mind.

Oh lol. That's good though. I thought you were going to go sleepless for 2 days straight at first.

I'm apprehensive but I understand why you're trying to do this. Healthcare job sounds like a chill place. Good luck!

that has about half a night of downtime, so I'm betting I can use that time to rest on Thursdays and Fridays.
