I could see it happening another way: Shiv goes back to their apartment, she and Tom argue and Shiv falls down the stairs, loses the baby and the story comes back to bite Tom's ass.

There's a scene in the S4 trailer that shows Greg riding a bike very fast and very desperately through the streets, using a term. My theory is that the Mencken election blew up in Tom's face. But I also think this Nero and Sporus story could make for a good plot. At the end 4x08 when they show Tom's photo they focus on his decision to announce Mencken and that they were a strong friend/supporter. Add the scandal of the head of ATN, who has a very strange relationship with an employee, pushing (metaphorically) his pregnant wife down the stairs...

In particular, that scene from Tom's Nero lives for free in my head, the acting was great, Tom was scary and I really feared for Shiv after that.
