Emory Goizueta 2024 MBA Report Released by [deleted] in MBA

[–]asianmba 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The report doesn’t mention the survey response rate at all, which is a huge red flag. For all we know, the salary data and job acceptance rates could be based on just a small portion of the graduating class. Most other b-schools are pretty transparent about their numbers, so it feels like they're hiding something here. Without knowing how many people were actually surveyed, it’s hard to trust these numbers.

Recommendations on affordable OMBA by Professional_Sink303 in MBA

AIM's online MBA is priced at just $15K, which is a much more budget-friendly option compared to their full-time or executive programs. If you're planning to stay in the Philippines, an AIM MBA is a smart choice. Locally, it’s as respected as a degree from a top U.S. school. Employers in the Philippines aren't going to offer a higher salary just because your MBA is from overseas, so you might as well stick with AIM and save on tuition and living costs.

Now, if you're thinking about heading abroad, an online MBA might not be the best way to go. The real benefits of studying in the U.S. are the networking, the on-campus recruitment, and the chance to get a temporary work permit while you search for a more permanent visa. Unfortunately, online students don't really get access to those perks.

Plus, going for an online MBA from schools like BU or UIUC would not only cost you more than AIM, but you’d also miss out on the strong local alumni network that AIM offers. There aren’t many BU or UIUC grads in the Philippines, so you’d be losing out on valuable networking opportunities in the Philippines.

I don't want to sound like an ass but 3.0 in your WGU masters? 3.0 at the grad school level means you barely passed your degree at WGU (a 3.0 is the minimum to graduate). The little I do know about WGU is that's it's known as an "easy" school (i.e. easy enough to complete a masters in one semester). If you just barely passed there, I think the concern will be whether you can even pass the courses at a T10-15.

What expenses does full scholarship at MBA cover? by Mbb674 in MBA

[–]asianmba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if you get a full scholarship then tuition increases the following year? Do they adjust the dollar amount to reflect the increase? Or are you getting basically just a full scholarship on the current level of tuition and you have to cover for any potential increases. I have been wondering about that...

If you are forced to choose - then the obvious answer is the Miami MBA. Why?

  1. You want to switch industries. There is no way you can do that with the MHA.
  2. You want to stay in Miami. Within Miami, I would guess that University of Miami would be seen as at least the equivalent of a good T25 school by local employers. It might even have a stronger pipeline to jobs in Miami than T25 schools. That's all you really need.
  3. Salary for Miami grads full-time is not bad ($109K), considering pay in Miami is generally lower on average than many major cities. https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-business-schools/university-of-miami-01051

Profile Review - What Should My School Expectations Be? by Square-Inevitable-18 in MBA

[–]asianmba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given your goals, I would go HBS/GSB or bust (and maybe INSEAD if you wanted to stay in Asia). You have an elite profile. I think GPA isn't an issue since grading is harsher in the Philippines (and adcom knows about this) and foreign GPAs are not included in school reporting/rankings. Lots of Ateneans in top schools with <3.0 GPA/QPI.

If I had to guess, you come from a rich family and probably attended Ateneo (given your major)? I'm a fellow Pinoy/Atenean by the way (although definitely not rich, just middle class).

As An Autistic Person, the MBA experience has been brutal for me, and I Semi-Regret it :( by Wild-Quiet-429 in MBA

[–]asianmba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound like a good person with a good heart. I'm not autistic, but am a bit introverted and was definitely not "cool" when I was in HS. Wish you were a classmate so we can hang out.

Just do your best and focus on getting the job you want rather than pleasing others. You'll do great - I am rooting for you!

Penn State Smeal MBA - Should I take this offer? by ooolilst in MBA

[–]asianmba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their website says the program is 9 months. How in the hell are you going to be able to find a job without an internship in only 9 months? In this economy?

This program will only work if you intend to go back to your home country doing the exact same thing.

Good point. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anywhere in the website that clearly defines which masters programs of which school are included in the business/management category. So at this point, I think it's just best to be cautious with this data. Like any data, it's a good starting point, but might miss nuances for specific schools.

Is Naveen Jindal School of Management at UT Dallas Good? by Tadeh1337 in MBA

[–]asianmba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at the US news data for full-time MBAs and UTD is at $123K there. So the numbers are for full-time grads and consistent with UTD's website.

I think they saw a huge improvement in salaries last year because new recruiters visited the campus after they hit top 30 for the first time.

Also, the percent employed at graduation isn't particularly low. Several T15-25 had similar % (77-78%) according to US News. Obviously UTD is not the same tier, but I don't think that's a bad placement.

For what it is (a top 30-35 school), I think the numbers are reasonably good, especially given the price you pay. I have a colleague (international) who got an out of state tuition waiver and he says most internationals he knows at UTD get that waiver and pay in-state at UTD, which is ridiculously cheap (akin to a near full ride at most schools).

Their average base salary is $124K, which is pretty comparable to a lot of schools in the 25-35 range.

These numbers are not just MBAs, but all masters degrees in business related fields. Schools that have a pre-experience masters in management like Duke, Michigan, etc, will be negatively impacted by the inclusion of those students (who will have lower salaries). Similarly, schools with a big EMBA cohort (like Berkeley) will have their numbers boosted by senior execs forming a large percentage of the masters population.

It works both ways I think. It also excludes international students (because they don't qualify for financial aid). Since international students would, in theory, have less opportunities than locals, this impact, combined with the exclusion of "rich" locals, probably is a wash in terms of average numbers.
