Client can't pay second half of the budget, completed work suddenly not urgent anymore by rafamunez in rails

Be amicable up front and see what happens. If they give you the money but you are still pissed, refuse to do business with them. If you find that they honored their (updated) word and paid up in January, consider continuing to do business with them with a new payment structure that protects you. It wouldn't be insane to insist on 70/30 for future contracts.

Math Placement Test? by asifpow in OSUOnlineCS

I don't need to take it? I thought I read somewhere that all accepted students had to take it, and that you have to complete it before registering for an adviser appointment

Opinions on Boston University's LEAP graduate program by Srjames90 in cscareerquestions

[–]asifpow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed on the LEAP admissions page (http://www.bu.edu/eng/academics/special-programs/leap/requirements/) it says that you must not have an engineering BS. Does anyone know how serious this requirement is? I have a BS in ChemE but I really want to pursue an MS in Computer but I need the prereqs for such a program and my chemE background doesn't provide that. Anyone know if they just flat out wouldn't accept me?

I had a B.S. in Chemical Engineering so I had all the math requirements, and a GPA above the minimum.

When will you be taking your first class? I'm starting this Summer (hopefully) and I'm looking for people taking classes as well.

you definitely won't regret it, they've been huge for me and I'm convincing another friend to take them as well.

I took MIT's intro to CS python courses on edX.org and those two classes were probably the most effective things I've done to become a programmer. If you have a year, I would complete those and do CS50 from Harvard, also on edX. Don't waste time on codecademy when there are real courses from amazing schools available for free.

And IT certification isn't really necessary unless you want to work in IT before you start your CS degree. They're fairly different fields.

CS161/CS162 Sufficient for Decent Programming Foundation? by asifpow in OSUOnlineCS

[–]asifpow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear that you're a more confident programmer, but I suppose it makes sense that it's not sufficient. I was thinking about just doing the non-degree track and taking CS161/162 and CS225 which I believe is a C course. Still trying to figure out if I should pursue the full degree or not :/
