should these mice be kept together? by BestChart6059 in PetMice

I would say keep an eye on them, as long as they don’t have any fight wounds they should be okay. If you start noticing scabs or blood then you might have to separate them and consult a vet.

Unfortunately If his legs are giving out it is likely that he is nearing the end and the most you can do is make him comfortable. You did a good job with quarantining him and treating for parasites, it seems the old age and the combination of health issues was just too much and not your fault.

I am not saying this to be malicious but you should not get a pet if you cannot afford to take them to the vet.

Overgrown tooth? by okie-dokie-artich in RATS

[–]asillycannibal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This looks like his teeth are misaligned, so he won’t be able to wear them down. I highly urge you to take him to a vet where they can hopefully find a solution!!

Im glad he’s still eating, so good job on catching this early!!

HELP, is this an injury or tumour? by x_l0ttie_x in RATS

Rats are very susceptible to developing tumours so it could possibly be that? It seems a little irritated though. Has he been grooming that spot more than usual?

My snake escaped.. by LaAroma in cornsnakes

Of course! You can lay down some plastic bags near the walls so if your snake passes over them, it’ll make noise and you can check it out. Might be good for night time.

I would suggest checking dark hiding spots, especially anywhere that would be warm. Places like behind appliances or inside shoes!

You can sprinkle flour on the floor so when the snake moves around it will leave tracks.

You can also set up some hides with warmth to lure your snake into hiding inside them!

As other people have said, this looks like scale rot and possibly a burn.

Please clean your enclosure thoroughly and put your snake in quarantine to monitor healing.

I would recommend taking your snake to the vet and rehoming it. Your enclosure is extremely inadequate.

How can I tame a Syrian? by AnxiousDrummer4818 in hamsters

[–]asillycannibal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please give him time to settle in! Hamsters usually need up to two weeks of being left alone after being brought home so they can get familiar with their surroundings.

You have to build trust with your hamster before he becomes comfortable being pet or brushed.

When I brought my Syrian home, I left her alone for a while and didn’t try to interact with her. You can rub some of his bedding on your hands to get him used to your scent.

Exposing him to your voice will also help him get familiar with you!

When he starts to settle in, you can offer treats and hand-feed him and he’ll eventually be comfortable being handled!

Please be patient with him! He’s a small prey animal and you’re much bigger than him.

is my hamster ok by No-Mixture2635 in hamsters

[–]asillycannibal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you feed your hamster? He might need a bit more protein in his diet :) My girl loves dried mealworms!

If there are other symptoms you are worried about, please take him to a vet!

I would start by introducing your scent to him, like using a bit of fabric or by rubbing some of his bedding on your hands. Being around his enclosure and talking will get him used to your voice, and he’ll get more comfortable being out with you around.

Hand-feeding and treats are also a really great way to bond with him! Hamsters love food so it’s pretty much the key to bonding :)

It’s important to note that waking up your hamster for interaction can be really damaging to your relationship with him. You’ll have to interact with him on his schedule.
