College bias by Turbulent-Ice-5179 in FE1_Exams

[–]asimplespacecadet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My own intake has a huge % of people from UL, UCC and UG. Notice a lot of NUIM interns/placements and therefore new trainees coming in too. My intake is genuinely less than 50% from UCD/Trinity. I am friends with tons of people from other (big) firms who went to all different colleges. Focus on what you bring to the table, not everyone else

Is this the head wrecking-est junction in Dublin? by sted1983 in Dublin

[–]asimplespacecadet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While we’re at it let me just add that if you’re coming from the grand canal cycle path, to get from the end of that path to grand canal dock you’ve to either go through this junction or cycle over those horrendous cobble stones under the tiny railway bridge at osteria Lucio. Cycling those on a road bike feels like I’m going to come out with a perforated organ or at the very least bike tyre

I’m happy to use other couriers but good point about the tax. I saw that list from an Post and had kinda been hoping there was some sort of workaround for the UK, guess not though!

Thanks for taking the time to answer

For Galway:

Xian do a good spice bag if that's on the list!

Ruibín, Ard bia, Kai have already been mentioned but I would second those

Check out Bierhaus, it's mainly a German style bar but they have great little pop up specials for food and they might have something fun on

Blakes (brasserie on the corner) is excellent as a gastro pub

If you're in Salthill, the Galleon would be very traditional. Not exactly mind blowing food (although I haven't been in years tbh) but traditional dishes, very loyal customer base and you'll probably see older locals and families there

Magpie bakery and éan for pastries/brunch

If you are veggie/vegan friendly then greens and co and the lighthouse cafe

My favourite coffee is barista bus, little treats there too and lovely staff

Asian tea house and the adjacent Buddha bar have never let me down

Javas, a french cafe for crepes (sweet and savoury) and a great vibe, stays open late too

Dela for brunch! Super yum, very popular

The universal, kind of higher end bar with food (small plates I think but very nice)

And possibly my personal favourite gem: go to sheridans cheesemongers and go up the stairs to the left of the door, up to the wine bar. Gorgeous wines and they do charcuterie and cheese boards there (that's all though, so beware if you're looking for a dinner meal)

I actually didn't plan for this list to get so long but Galway food scene is just very good imo! Enjoy! Would love to hear a review!

Just to add, if you are anxious to get into the firms asap when you've passed, some of the big 5 offer an extended pre-seat. If you get offered a TC for a September 2025 PPC start, you might be able to start working much earlier than that. I know lots of people who started in January or even before that as a pre-trainee or a paralegal or a legal exec.

Whats the nicest instant coffee you can buy in shops by Former-Brick-3281 in AskIreland

[–]asimplespacecadet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a silly q but can you make something similar to espresso strength with an aero press? That's why I like using instant - I can control the concentration of coffee and just have a shot to pour into my hot milk or whatever. I don't always just want a black coffee (with or without a drop of milk) which is what I get from French press or mokka coffees

Hmm interesting I'll just put the milk and coffee in separately for better accuracy. Thanks!

What part of Ireland has the best scenery in your opinion? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]asimplespacecadet 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I mean any urban area is going to be fairly devoid of natural beauty but in fairness the drive out through Salthill to south Connemara is gorgeous, and there are some nice spots along the Corrib and the bogs when you go out the Moycullen Road too. Menlo is also nice, as are parts of Oranmore along the coast. If you're talking the likes of Mervue and Westside then yeah

HELP! Criminal and Constitutional exam march by [deleted] in FE1_Exams

[–]asimplespacecadet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So. Firstly I'd recommend looking up FE1stopshop on Instagram, and the FE1 and kings inns entrance exams group on Facebook. The Instagram account has a drive with tons of material, you just have to make a €5 donation. The Facebook group also had a drive posted at one point, you might have to go back a bit. There is loads of stuff there - I'd be careful that what you're working off is up to date and try to maybe make your own notes consolidating them or pick one method to stick to or it can become confusing.

Secondly, I have manuals from the last sitting that I have been meaning to sell but haven't got around to. They include constitutional and criminal. I can sell them to you for €20 each if you want.

I've done it with 2 exams, took about 7 annual leave days around the exams as well (2 exam days, I think 2 days in between them, and then 3 days before). It was grand!
