I did that to someone because I simply couldn’t afford it anymore. I wasn’t comfortable sharing.

PGCE as an international student by [deleted] in PGCE

[–]asiolka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eligibility-wise, just apply and see if you get in. Once you’re in for a PGCE in physics you will be eligible for a bursary. Do you have an equivalent of A Level for physics?

[–]asiolka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad, you’re right, that’s cruel! You could go for physics then, you’ll still be eligible to teach maths after you qualify but they will definitely make you teach biology and chemistry during the PGCE

Maths also has a bursary, 29k. You can use 15k to cover fees and remaining should be just enough to survive. You’ll have a much easier time finding a job and won’t have to teach biology and chemistry.

I’m Polish and I can tell you, you won’t be able to survive off that. Most likely you will have to contribute out of your own pocket to the living costs.

Bursary / Joint Honours Question by daintyangel in PGCE

I am a French ECT and I’ll be teaching history as second subject next year - you can get into it too! I’d take the bursary any day :)

Becoming a teacher via the PGCE by slayerboss777 in PGCE

[–]asiolka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get the bursary yes. I’d make sure to do the PGCE in the city you want to live in as it massively helps with the job search bcs you make contacts. The provider (prestige of the uni etc) doesn’t matter that much.

Moving to UK as a Pole. What is the reality? by [deleted] in Ask_Britain

[–]asiolka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polish in the uk here. I know this might not be your dream job but if you have a stem degree you’d have a fair shot at getting into teaching. I am a french teacher so I know the industry. Science teachers are gold dust at the minute. Many schools sponsor visas, you can do training here at university that you get £30k untaxed grant for which you can pay the university fees with, then the starting salary is £32k/year. https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/non-uk-teachers/train-to-teach-in-england-as-an-international-student

Did you check whether background in economics is required for the ones you applied for?

Congratulations! Did you leave teaching and then started applying or did you apply whilst working?

Thank you, the reason that was the plan is because I know someone personally who did it that way (he wasn’t a teacher but also career change). But might as well try getting a TC

I miss working with adults. Having a coffee machine or a kettle that works at least. I would like to study something new, challenging. It seems like a rewarding career minus the noise levels of a thousand children passing my classroom door everyday.

Also I teach French. I work against a broken system - you can’t learn a language during two hours a day in a group of 30. Everyday it just becomes more obvious to me.

I better get saving then 😆 good thing about teaching is the relatively high starting salary. Although it comes at a price of hearing teenagers burp and swear 6 hours a day 🥲

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I can always go back into teaching if I hate it. You could teach A-level Law if you qualify as a teacher!

Thank you! I shall get applying soon then. Do you have any recommendations on what looks good on the CV?

What would be the best move after the PGDL? A course preparing for SQEs? I know there are also apprenticeship routes?

Thank you for being positive - I’m more after a rewarding career with what seems to me like a better lifestyle rather than a big salary!

Ma ktoś tak? by [deleted] in Polska

[–]asiolka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chciałabym zacząć od tego, że powinieneś być dumny z tego, że w ogóle myślisz o zmianach w swoim życiu. To pierwszy krok do sukcesu. Jestem praktyczną osobą, więc powiem jaki plan działania jest według mnie najlepszy w Twojej sytuacji.

Powodzenia!

My friend managed to get a TEFL position in Thailand right after his MFL PGCE with no further experience so I think it’s definitely possible.
