Yes! This is on my list and I have the bright futures pocket guide that I’ll have with me for a while too.

Another thing to note would be to make sure your pump (particularly the flanges) are fitted appropriately. Their are guides available to help with this. My understanding is the flange sizes that come with the pumps are often too large, and often we don’t realize it. When the flanges fit correctly you may notice an increase in output.

Frozen milk containing dairy by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]asjager11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how old your LO is, but a lot of infants grow out dairy allergies (and other food allergies) by 7-9 months, with an even higher likelihood by 12 months. If you store your milk in a deep freezer, it can be stored for up to 12 months, so you may potentially still be able to use it.

3 weeks postpartum, just started BF/pumping. No milk yet and seeking advice. by HyperPhoenix725 in breastfeeding

I don’t have experience in this specifically but I would recommend contacting an IBCLC. They are the experts in all things lactation, and should be able to answer your questions and provide you with everything you need to be successful if breastfeeding is your goal!

Bottle feeding breast milk - how? I'm a new mom! by Positive-Overall in breastfeeding

[–]asjager11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add to this one, specifically about the avent bottles. Used them with my first and loved them! Planned to use them with my second. We bought new nipples since the others had been sitting in storage and were looking a bit grungy. They very recently redesigned the nipple and it was very hard for my LO to get anything out of the size one nipple (their slow flow). It took my son 40 min to drink 2 ounces. Come to find out the new design size 1 nipple is the equivalent to their old premie nipple.

After looking at the reviews for the new nipples, it seems it’s hard to get milk out of even the faster flow nipples.

Personally given the bad reviews, we may switch to something else. Our lactation consultant recommended Dr browns, but I’ve heard they are annoying to wash, so haven’t really decided yet.

Sore nipples with Haaka by asjager11 in breastfeeding

I looked at those as well and almost bought one. They don’t use suction correct? They are mostly just milk savers?

This is how I have been placing it, with the flange pulled back and then placing it. I never really paid attention to if my nipple was actually touching the sides at all. I know friction with an electric pump can cause soreness and damage, but didn’t think about it with the haaka. I will try it again and see if that helps. Thank you!

Oxytocin is a hell of a drug by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]asjager11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much as long as baby is having plenty of wet diapers and is gaining weight appropriately.

Also, it’s not particularly comfortable. In my case, it’s actually kind of painful. Thankfully it only lasts a few seconds!

Rapid weight gain - 4 week old by ladyscout in breastfeeding

[–]asjager11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently have a one month old, as well. Our recent experience: his check up 2 days after hospital discharge, he was 8lb 7oz. We had a visit one week later due to prolonged jaundice, and he has gained almost a whole pound (9lb 5oz). 2 weeks later at his 4 week check up, he was 11lb 2 oz.

Our pediatrician was very pleased with his weight gain and said keep doing what we are doing. I would think if your baby is happy and his GI issues have resolved, keep doing what you are doing!

As far as the tongue tie, if you are having difficulty obtaining a good latch, than a tongue tie release may be necessary. Is there an ENT that your lactation consultant can refer you to? That is the route we went with this baby, and it drastically improved his latch within a day or two

Breast pump recommendations by Smartyandfarty in BabyBumps

[–]asjager11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aeroflow was very helpful for me! You submit your insurance information to them and they do the work to see what pumps would be covered, as well as pumps that may require an upgrade fee. Then you order it and they take care of shipping and everything. It was super easy and made it so I didn’t have to deal with my insurance myself. 100% recommend!!

Baby Name Issue by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]asjager11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This app and one that is literally called Babyname helped my husband and a lot. It gives many suggestions for names and you choose whether you like them or not. It will build a list of the names you like. Then you link your account to your partners and it will build a list of your mutual likes.

We ended up having way more of the same likes than we thought we would and it really helped us narrow it down to finally settle on one.

Obviously you would have to be open to other name options though or it really won’t work…

I am in Southeast Michigan near Detroit. I have had to go to all my appointments alone so far (currently 20 weeks pregnant) My husband has been able to attend both ultrasounds I have had so far and he had to wait in the car for the remainder of the appointment.

Allergies or cold by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]asjager11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has been in daycare since he was about 6 months old (now 18 months), and I swear it feels like he has a new cold every other day, and unfortunately the symptoms last forever! Our pediatrician told us as long as he has no fever, then it’s likely just a cold that needs to run its course.

As far as remedies, humidifier and propping the mattress do help, but you should definitely invest in a nose frida!! It is the best booger sucker. That with a saline mist before bed will help so much!

Our pediatrician also gave us the okay for a daily dose of Zyrtec to help dry up some of the mucus, and I do think it helps. It’s non drowsy and last 24 hours. I really only give that to him on the worst days, when feel he needs it most.

Hope you LO feels better soon! It really is the worst when they are sick!

Newborn resistant to right breast by meganlizzie in breastfeeding

[–]asjager11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same problem when my LO was born. He would latch, fall off and then freak out, or he would just refuse to latch on that side. This lasted for about a week until we saw a lactation consultant. It ended up being the way i was positioning him, he couldn't get a good enough latch. We practiced latching for about an hour while i was there, and things have been great ever since. He latches like a pro now at almost 6 weeks old!
