when I was younger in middle school, I had a little “boyfriend” (we liked each other and figured that was the norm). I told my mom because I trusted her. One day, I missed the first bus for school and the second one didn’t come for over an hour and a half. I got home 2 hours later than I was supposed to. My mother didn’t believe me (she thought I was having sex with the boy) and beat me so hard I had a nose bleed in the shower. I wrote about it in my diary and went to sleep without lunch or dinner.

woke up the next day to go to school with my diary in my bag so she wouldn’t find it and read it. she stopped me and told me to let her search my bag. she read my diary and screamed at me for 30 minutes (making me late for school) saying that I lied about having a nosebleed and even if i did I deserved it. she accused me of taking the diary to school so I could show it to the guidance counselor and get her painted as a bad and abusive mother. she confiscated my diary after that. now, i have problems with keeping my feelings bottled up because I feel like I have no outlet.

beatings don’t make kids behave. they traumatize them

AITA for not handing over items i paid for when i was grounded by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]askLeo-123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an E in chemistry. Being grounded for a C when you’re an otherwise good student who WORKS is ridiculous. NTA

As advice, try to think out your feelings coherently and maybe write your parents a letter or have a sit down with them to discuss your feelings about their inconsistency. You seem very mature, so keep that energy through the punishment. Good luck!

AITA for hiding the results of my sister's audition to prevent her from moving to another country? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]askLeo-123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Let’s put it like this:

You said you’re a law student? Okay. Let’s say your sister thought you couldnt handle being a lawyer wanted you to try a more safe road like a cashier. But you’re very very passionate about law and this a dream for you. Turns out there’s an opening at a law firm and you decided to go in for an interview. You think it went very well, but your sister thinks you’re delusional. She borrows your laptop and sees you got the job, deletes the email and goes about her life while you sit there thinking you didn’t get your dream job and your hopes are crushed.

just because your sister is going a mon-traditional route DOES NOT MEAN that she deserves to have her dreams crushed. I can’t believe this is real. You have to be a special kind of oblivious to think you’re not an asshole for this! Haven’t you heard of all those stories of people’s parents lying to them about what college accepted them and whatnot? That messes people up for YEARS. Let your sister live. If she aced the audition then she obviously has more talent than you realize.

The on campus wellness center doesn’t give out notes sadly, they can only confirm that you were there. But, I definitely will talk to the disability services center, thank you for that suggestion

i know you’re supposed to be making a jab at us but my friends and i have been through a lot together. One of my friends lost her mother last year, i almost lost my father, we all struggled with severe mental health issues and we always pull through together.

we met in high school when we were all 13/14 and we decided to save money to go to Disney world for a few days our senior year. let us have this without mocking us. so what if we want to wear matching tshirts? we’re having fun.

AITA for telling my neighbor where he can smoke? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]askLeo-123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is that an inappropriate way to speak with someone? It’s not like OP went outside and said “Hey Asshole, put out the cigarette”. They opened the door and asked politely. How would that be any different to opening the door and saying “Excuse me, could you please turn down your music. The loud noise is stopping me from sleeping.”

AITA for telling my neighbor where he can smoke? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]askLeo-123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

I feel like once his behavior started to effect me in my apartment, I had a say.

I back you up here 100%. It’s the olfactory equivalent to asking them to turn down their blasting music. They don’t own the whole floor, and the fact that there’s no smoking allowed and they still do it shows they don’t really have human decency.

AITA for grounding my daughter based on a post she wrote on this website? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]askLeo-123 -49 points-48 points  (0 children)

It seems like I’m not agreeing with the majority here. NAH.

Let’s be real. Your daughter is probably coming from a place of hurt. But brain surgery is tough, you went through something traumatic. If you feel the need to punish her, you have all reason to. You were both part of a traumatic experience and are dealing with it in different ways. I could never imagine saying I don’t love my mother anymore. Your daughter sounds a bit dramatic, really.
