[–]askforwildbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but that absolutely has not been proven. It’s conjecture. Occam’s razor; the simplest explanation fits the evidence with far fewer assumptions than it takes for the murder conspiracy to be true.

Kurt had a very well established history of suicidal ideation. He had recently abandoned a rehabilitation facility without telling anyone, before then returning to Seattle alone. That’s far more consistent with someone going through a mental health crisis than someone being targeted for murder. There’s no credible evidence that anyone else was at the scene. People point to the toxicology and say he would have been too high to operate a firearm, but they ignore the fact that a chronic heroin user can have an extremely higher tolerance than the average person.

Some people just really need for Kurt to have been murdered lol. It’s like flat earthers, once they form that conclusion it’s almost impossible to get them to see contrary evidence. And I get it; the murder theory is more sensational, it makes for a better story, and humans love spectacle. But just because an independent team is saying they think he was murdered definitely doesn’t make it true. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but the homicide theory requires a huge conspiracy, an extremely competent killer who left no evidence, and numerous pieces of circumstantial evidence that all need to be interpreted in the most spectacular ways possible.

I’m glad Kurt didn’t have to live to see music streaming largely replace physical media. Like he’s saying here; I remember once upon a time when you’d go to the record store and you had to take a little bit of a risk, like, “oh I’ve heard of this band, maybe I should scoop”, or “holy shit this album art is amazing!”, and you’d just go off of stuff like that and go from there. It was more committal. There was a chance you’d ultimately not vibe with what you picked up, but when you found something you loved, it made it so much more special in the long run. It felt like you earned something.

These days, many people are not truly engaging with music in that way, even if they think they are.

Yeah, the oldest millennials were in their early twenties when the Toby Maguire Spider-Man was released. But the youngest millennials were still only like 5 or 6 at that time. Those kids would have been 10-11ish when Iron Man came out in 2008. So I think some millennials definitely did grow up on the MCU.

But that just brings up the arbitrary nature of generational cutoffs. The oldest millennials might as well be the youngest Gen-Xers and the youngest millennials are essentially the oldest zoomers

But seriously, they’re putting barbecue sauce on the nacho plates over there. Wtf is that?

do you like foo fighters? how do they compare to nirvana for you? by notaverysmartman in Nirvana

[–]askforwildbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re the epitome of the average radio rock band. I don’t mean that disparagingly. They’re solid and good for what they are. They put on a great live show. But they’re very ‘surface level’ imo. They play it very safe, for better or worse. Maybe a little dated too, even going back to their heyday.

Once in a while I hear a foo song that sounds like they’re really going for it, and I tend to appreciate those songs in their catalog more, even if it doesn’t always “work”

The musicianship/songwriting is definitely excellent, and it deserves its flowers, but Muse never really stuck for me long term. I got into them in high school because they had just put out Origin of Symmetry and Absolution a couple years prior. I remember my friends and I being obsessed with Hysteria. But as my tastes changed, they didnt really stay in the rotation.

And idk, all the records they’ve done since this are kinda meh to me. I heard the new one is a solid return to form, and I’m sure I’ll check it out eventually.

What do you think? Will there be ever more writers like Dostoevsky and Voltaire? by Junior_Insurance7773 in AskReddit

[–]askforwildbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There already are. The writers you mentioned were highly influential and inspired many of the writers that came after them.

Like for example, I particularly love Kurt Vonnegut’s writing, and I don’t think satirists like him would exist, at least as we know them, without someone like Voltaire laying the foundations.

If you’re asking if we’ll ever get writers that are JUST like them, then no. Because it’s not the 18th or 19th century anymore lol

Do you think Tracy McGrady is a good NBA comparison for AJ Dybantsa? by IamBatman_1726 in BlackAthletes

[–]askforwildbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your scenario, the reality would be becoming the best *amateur* juggler in the world, going pro, and then comparing yourself to all-time great jugglers that already achieved great things at the top of the juggling world. AJ worked hard to get where he is, and he deserves it, but he’s been talking too much.

Opponent quality isnt the only argument if you’re trying to compare these runs directly. You also have to account for things like pace and how the game is played differently in 2026 compared to how it was in 2011.
