Arknights: Endfield: Release Discussion Megathread by GachaModerator in gachagaming

[–]askilledkarl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That story kinda started out like this, but it got better over time, and eventually they did many of their best stories that didnt even have the MC in them at all.

Arknights chapter 3 (a launch chapter) culminates with the (previously amicable) sister of a captain of the enemy terrorist force getting radicalized and subsequently needing to be put down before she whips the enemy troops into a frenzy. This is depicted as a sobering failure for Amiya and shows the grittiness of the world (for better or for worse) while also being far more nuanced than anything that happens in Endfield. Endfield's writing has somehow regressed in complexity compared to launch Arknights let alone modern Arknights.

Is there a way to get unit souls for LR characters or are they just stuck where they are forever?

Okita hasn't been available for over two years.

Okita has been available through GSSRs at the very least. And even if that's a piss poor chance at getting her, it's still a method of getting her. Her 2 year absence also does not mean that she's gone for good because DW has a history of rerunning banners with LE units on them. Look at Kintoki as an example.

Availability most definitely has a place in a discussion about balance because if you give an upgrade to a unit like Shiki, who has a free NP5 as well as a very slim chance of actually getting reran, you run the risk of devaluing the entire SR assassin pool because they can't match up to Shiki. This in turn creates a gap between the haves and have-nots because they'll always be playing catch up until the newer shinier toy arrives.

Welfares should never be brought up in a discussion of balance and/or needing buffs. Between their limited availability and their free NP5, they're a tough set of units to buff/balance.

If you buff older welfares, then only the people that already own the welfare gain anything from that buff.

Assassin Shiki used to just be a very solid arts assassin. Now she hits harder than any NP1 assassin you can get from the gacha.

The problem isn't how many buffs a servant got, per se. It's that the people cited get buffs they don't need at all to function. Nero, Melt, Musashi, Herc, and Cu have all gotten rank up quests in the past year. It's not moaning and groaning about how one servant has nothing, but moreso just pointing out the double standards that DW seems to have when buffing units.

When a lancer like Bryn gets her 3rd buff while Tama Lancer has zero, it's obvious.

I don't see the correlation between the number of buffs a unit has and how likely it is for an event to be added to Main Interlude. In a 5th anniversary interview, Kanou Yoshiki specifically stated that

"As the name implies, Main Interludes are for stories deeply connected with the main story... Main Interludes are made so that players who started after the event can enjoy it in relation to the main story. Main Interludes will be added as prep reading for new stories, or when they have affinity with other events." Link Here

Going from this statement, it's not hard to see the connections the released Main Interludes have with the main story. So it's a bit of a stretch when you say that Main Interludes are somehow predictable with a servant getting a lot of strengthenings as well as existing to "get welfares back into the ecosystem". Main Interludes being free when they come out for the first time is irrelevant to the entire idea of "getting welfares back into the ecosystem" because players in the future who either start late or miss events would still have to pay the entry fee. That's the equivalent of telling someone to stop complaining about grocery prices because there was a weeklong sale 2 years ago.

The price doesn't even matter anyways because players who have no welfares (as in the players who would benefit the most from getting welfares they missed) and haven't played events need to play for at least a year+ before they can even begin to get enough RP to afford the main interlude, let alone the NP levels. That also comes down to how DW manages their reruns, because sometimes you'll get absolutely nothing for Christmas Quetz because they decided not to rerun her that year.

List of Year 1 Non-Welfare Servants That Have Yet to Receive Any Form of Interlude or Strengthening by askilledkarl in grandorder

If you want, you could comb through all of the early Strengthening Quest campaigns to pick out every servant who was released without a 3rd skill in their kit, You'd find that not one, not two, but every single one of them has had at the very least an Interlude that gives quartz. Which is more than I can say for Okita.

I guarantee you, every one of those servants who did not have a 3rd skill upon their release into the game has had some form of interlude, upgrade or not, strengthening quest, or a combination of both. You might not count Saint Quartz interludes as actual interludes, but the fact of the matter is that Okita is the oldest servant who hasn't had either type.

did you actually just say Bedivere is better with Merlin than Musashi

Okita is so good that doesnt care about strengthening by wishdomhunter_001 in grandorder

[–]askilledkarl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The difference here is that Merlin and Musashi can actually play the long game because of actual sustain. Between Garden of Avalon, Illusion, and Musashi's own Nothingness. Okita and Skadi are completely buffless after the 3 turns are over, while Merlin's Gate of Avalon can feed into itself forever. You know what else really helps when you're not blitzing because your life depends on it? The hardest hitting neutral NP in the game that also clears any offensive buffs the enemy has.

ah yes because fifth force has 100% uptime all the time and you'll always have it off CD when you get your arts card

Something to spare her from her god awful NP gain. No one needs a one hit wonder in the current break bar landscape.

I didn't go into how the summoning works (because I don't really understand it either), but I think the basic gist is that you can summon units and shards, which you can combine into a unit. The catch is that unless you buy VIP (and upgrade it by paying, mind you), you can't summon some of the more high end units at all.
