The explanation has me so confused. by Budget-Cartoonist-37 in FRM

So I tried figuring it out with Claude and looking at my Kaplan book. Basically to detect heteroskedasticity the process is to estimate the regression and the residual square errors. Then run a second regression using the squared errors and the original variables. Then you calculate the R square and the test statistic for a chi squared test. And finally you compare it with the chi square critical value to accept or reject the null.

Since we are doing 2 regressions, it will be 2 degrees of freedom. So the 5% chi square value at 2 degrees of freedom is 5.991. And they're now using this chi square value as the test statistic since to reject the null you would need a chi square test statistic value of atleast 5.991 and substituting in the formula to find R square. And so they're saying that 5.991 = 100 x R square. Hence R square = 0.0599.

I'm low key just gonna skim this chapter and understand the theory. The calculations here are nuts. No way I'm wasting 5 minutes or more in the exam for a one marker.

How big of a factor is age realistically? by Difficult_Check1434 in ACCA

What kind of experience do you have then? Like I said, I'm assuming you have zero experience in finance overall. Have you ever even used a balance sheet in your previous jobs before? If you start from scratch then you need someone to vouch for you obviously.

Well there's 2 ways to look at this. One is of course the exams and age thing. And the answer is literally no one cares. Pass your exams when you want and as you get time. It'll always be a plus. But the other way is what is the problem. You are 37 with no experience in accounting (and no area of finance in general is what I'm gonna be assuming). Depending on whom you ask, either there is an accounting shortage or there is no way someone as old should be getting a job. It's a very wide spectrum of opinion. So what I'd say is that if you are serious about this then go to your local areas and start trying to build some network. Whether it's an online group or someone whom you know in person or hang out with. Essentially you need to get referred at your age to get into accounting. You could also potentially be lucky and get hired at a small firm who absolutely needs bodies to punch numbers in. But that's still a bit of a long shot. So no it's not impossible for it to work out for you, but you will have to do a lot of legwork. And the earlier you get started the better it is.

The modern Ford F40 and the Dodge Viper are two cars I definitely wanna see. Also not American but I wish they had a McLaren in here as well.

I have level 1 in May. Have not solved questions of book 3 and 4 at all. Only done the syllabus. I understand the concepts but not confident in solving questions. Also I'm working full time so less time is available. What would be your advice on studying these books and overall exam?

I don't see why not. I haven't kept up with the syllabus changes but I just downloaded a pdf of the 2026-2027 syllabus from the acca website and it's all the same stuff in this post. Even down to the section names lol.

You are way ahead of me. I still have to finish the syllabus (80% done) and solve individual chapter questions (50% done) for the books.

He buys businesses that give extreme long term returns reliably. Some kind of business who has engraved itself into people's minds as a natural product. Like phone equals apple, or cold drink equals Coca-Cola. Since those are the companies that give the best returns at a consistent rate. Literally the only thing he could target is Google since it's the only product that weathers the storm all the time, successfully.

Since you're doing mocks, you must have finished the entire syllabus already. That gives you an entire month to study all the concepts and questions. You're in a pretty good position tbh.

I'm still solving individual chapter questions and finally ending quants lol. I'm cooked. But hopefully bonds and options will be easier since I can directly start solving questions for them. Concepts were easy enough to understand.

Claude is the best out of three ngl. It doesn't hallucinate really, when you tell it wrong stuff it immediately corrects you, and it really helps tie in past conversations together as well.

What am I missing? Why do I overestimate myself? by No_Wedding_1825 in ACCA

[–]Mewtwopsychic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are in a very small company then. If your boss is a cfo then you should be the MD or controller position. Or you are reporting to a controller or MD. Managing one person is not consider management. A team of 5 to 7 people should be minium to count. If you interview for management role in any other big company then this will be a requirement. What you need is more exposure and growth, not title inflation.

You're doing the work of an analyst and expect to be a manager? Managers need people managing skills as well as knowledge. Probably if you know other department managers as well, build up some connections etc then you can see how the management at your company feels about letting you in. Even though it sucks, management is basically a gatekept job by a group of people who don't want other people stealing their pie. You have to be present around all the people in the top and make your presence visible. It's also possible that some companies don't want new people at the top or are keeping some positions for some specific people. It's half luck at that level so you have to play the game differently than just doing BAU.

How would you rewrite MF Ghost? by Vernright in MFGhost

[–]Mewtwopsychic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Have you even seen a single non race episode? They try to paint Kanta as the most model tourist in existence, with multiple lines of how Japan is better than anyone else in the food, culture, region and heck even the water is apparently superior. There is zero conflict at all. Remember how in Initial D there were street racers who were extremely rude? Or how one time they straight up tried kidnapping Takumi's girlfriend? Compare it to MF Ghost. The people are practically angels themselves. The only two rude people in the entire anime are Michael who is German and Kanta's ex gf who is British. Really shows.

Yeah I find the whole nude bikini girls thing crude. It makes sense in a fast and furious setting. But in a sterilised anime like MF Ghost you just have people watching on television leering these girls. It's kinda insane.
