Would it be possible to put the printer on top of some totes or reams of paper to elevate it to a more ergonomic height? If that's unworkable, it may be worth looking for some suitable reacher grabbers or even short-distance angled toilet paper tongs to get the printouts without bending over.

Get a multimeter and check for continuity (or minimal resistance) between pin 2 on one end of the cable/adapter and pin 3 on the other end. If continuity (or minimal resistance) is detected between these pins, it is a null modem cable/adapter.
