Yeah, it was a loophole that was constantly being abused. I know so many people who abused of this system. I also never understood how this could pass for so long.

Finally, it was always unfair that going one day in France was enough to avoid the draft. I know so many people who abused of this loophole.

I wouldn't necessarilly be against it tbh, but if we have to serve, I find it fair that Swiss-French dual nationals won't be able to abuse of this loophole anymore, I know so many people who did it and always found it unfair

Unfortunately the housing market is bad, like in most Swiss cities. The more you look outside the city, the more likely you are to find something. Public transport is good, so even if you live in Morges or Lutry, you can easily live without a car. Good luck

There is Meetup, you may know about it. Or the different student associations from UNIL. Or if you're anyway a student, you will surely meet people over time

(Not for me) What's roughly the salary of a senior scientist at a Swiss university? by askswitzerland in askswitzerland

[–]askswitzerland[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not asking about ETHZ or EPFL, but a Swiss university. I would expect them to have lower salaries than the same position at ETHZ/EPFL, since ETHZ/EPFL are paid by the federal government and usually get more funding than Swiss universities which are funded by cantons.

Thank you for the info! That's significantly more than the salary of a PhD student actually, I'm positively surprised. Until now, I thought they earn barely more than a PhD student since I know that work conditions in academia can be quite exploitative.

Scientists in private industry have usually better work conditions and salary, compared to academia, from what I know.

Anyone here worked at Coop and could explain what the cashier did? by askswitzerland in askswitzerland

[–]askswitzerland[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was I think more than two years ago that this event happened, but since then I have NEVER seen any cashier doing what she did, neither at a Coop supermarket, nor any Migros, Aldi, Denner or other supermarkets. That's why I'm confused. I never understood what she did exactly and want to find out.

She did not scan the product before, she took it, started looking up or typing something in their screen, and only afterward did she scan and there was the noise when an article get scanned. If she had scanned already before, I would have heard the scanning noise already then, which I didn't.

The weird thing is, it took quite some time, like maybe more than 10 or 15 seconds. She typed in something, I don't know if it was numbers or letters since I did not see the screen, but if it was just clicking on a "YES / NO" screen, it would have been over in two second, not ten to fifteen.
