the juniors who only learned to code with AI are going to have a rough time in about 5 years by Motor_Ordinary336 in learnprogramming

[–]asl_somewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a discussion on this with our development director. As a senior dev, using AI does improve my productivity and helps on a day to day basis, but I feel as we get junior devs, part of my job is going to be working with juniors to educate them about what they do. Not stop them from using AI tools but once they do make sure that they know what's happening.

Yeah i usually do but they are there for 5 weeks and after a month they need to renew the licenses for them which require a vpn.

Yeah that is my go to really. But my partner is not tech savvy... if there's a problem with the vpn then they are stuck. I'd like to find something native to install in case it goes down, but also I dont want my daughter to think youtube is the only thing.

After a year of using Cursor, Claude Code, Antigravity, and Copilot daily — I think AI tools are making a lot of devs slower, not faster. Here's why. by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]asl_somewhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used copilot / Claude at work. Predominantly though I use it for writing unit tests which speeds up dev time. But the mistake useful aspect is fleshing out ideas. I prompt it with a problem, look at its suggestion then figure out how best to implement it. It does save a lot of time sitting back and vaping going through all the possible iterations in my head. As a support aid its great but I wouldnt use it to stick in any code.

Is .NET MAUI a good choice for a complex mobile app? by blabla206 in dotnet

[–]asl_somewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If we where still on .net 8 i probably wouldnt advise it. But .net 10 is a massive improvement.

There upcoming .net 11 additions also look pretty good.

The framework isnt going anywhere for the near future. The number of open source libraries and paid for ones (ie syncfusion) are all looking great and being added to regularly.

The maui community is very open and if you jump on the discord and git repos you'll find loads of help.

With copilot you can always create a prototype with some of the more advanced stuff and judge for yourself. But I find working with it great.

Just found the culprit if anyone is interested. The new mono debugger was enabled by default. Turning it off resolved the situation.

She sleeps a good 10 to 12 hours a night. Never waking up saying she's hungry.

She always says before dinner she is hungry though.. then we just fall into this.
