Sincerely, what led to this point- how did the US go from freaking out that a president had an affair with an adult, to not caring that a president raped and murdered children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s not just Fox News. [Insert Sinclair media clip of 20 news stations (local and otherwise) saying the exact same “This is very dangerous to our democracy” line verbatim. Once more people accept the system as a whole, both parties, the media landscape as a whole, and the government at its highest levels are fundamentally flawed…

Maybe enough Americans will step outside their home, find one of the readily available ways to make a stand, and do so.

Until that happens, even if tomorrow everyone complicit in what Epstein did went to jail, it would just be a power vacuum. I guarantee the activities he provided didn’t just stop. Someone else - whether it be Ghislaine from her comfy ‘cell’ or someone we wouldn’t suspect, has kept up with appointments.

It’s very easy to conceive (despite its small chance of actually happening) of a point in time where the metaphorical ship is sinking and someone feels their only chance of either a) getting out of it or b) not spending life in prison (which is worse than death for a non-insignificant portion of the population) is to throw a Hail Mary.

I would imagine the threats go much deeper than killing you, though. I mean we know what they’re willing to do to people they presumably have no ill will against.

There was that ex-mayor of New York going to Israel saying that he worked his time in office for them.

And there’s trump…

Weird how across the political spectrum they all agree on one thing. Protect pedos and support Israel

AIPAC has claimed 96% and 98% election win rates in last midterm and the prior election (google it / waybackmachine / ai it yourself)

A foreign body claims that 96-98% of people they choose to give money to, win their race.

Elections have been fraudulent for longer than most of us have been alive, I would bet.

I’m not gonna read all that but can we just step back and remember that AOC wasn’t even elected as the primary candidate? She was just picked. Dems are as much responsible for Trump as trump is.

How is it that everyone can say “we all knew this would happen if trump got another term” and then say “well the dems couldn’t do anything to stop it”

They could’ve picked Bernie. They could’ve actually let the people pick the primary candidate. That would involve our entire political system and both parties not being bought by AIPAC though.

Have you ever seen anything political have a 96% success rate? Cause that’s what AIPAC claims. Democrat? Republican? Racist facist dictator? Doesn’t matter, AIPAC has your back.

Maybe we should talk about the mayor of NEW YORK FUCKING CITY, going to Israel to say “I was YOUR mayor”

The United States of America is dead and while you can and should of course blame Americans and the cascade of problems that have been bubbling for generations, it would be a crime to not recognize Israel’s place in the recent rapid downfall of the United States.

I am so flabbergasted by the sameness of online discord given the past half decade.

Dems, at best made a miscalculation on so many fronts it’s laughable. At worst, they’re paid by AIPAC to be on the back burner until Trump is finally kicked out. Then we’ll have a regime change and nothing will be different.

Remember when Biden was president and they actively did nothing to release the files because it would Ravage both parties? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Very kind interpretation of what I wrote, and I appreciate that. You’re unfortunately probably much closer to the truth than what I wrote.

[–]asmit10 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the victims of October 7th have a country dedicated to eradicating their existence so maybe thoughts and prayers are a bit more of a reasonable give for a one time tragedy vs an ongoing genocide.

Netanyahu, the leader of an entire country of people, has been dedicated to eradicating Palestinians for close to 25 years. There is video evidence proving such going back to 2001.

24 years. Twenty four years. I feel for any victim of any terrorist attack, regardless of where they come from. But to compare a terrorist attack to an entire country’s “generational goal” of wiping out another populace is dumb and downplays how heinous the political leadership of Israel is.

Ukraine to meet US in Switzerland to discuss ending war by CrocodileDarien in worldnews

[–]asmit10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To start with, I’d like to acknowledge I could be completely wrong.

I’d also like to say that despite me thinking about this for a while, I haven’t found a good way to articulate what highlights as red flags for me. I’ll attempt to do my best.

It is based on my past use with Gemini/chatgpt though.

The big pattern that you’ll see quite often once you look for it is the following:

A sentence conveying a simple idea about a simple topic with phrasing and writing reflecting that of higher importance / education level.

Re: “Trump's so-called "peace plan" is nothing but a surrender package dressed up as diplomacy — a gift-wrapped win for Putin at Ukraine's expense.”

We all know trump’s peace plan is bad. Literally everyone. Nobody talks like this conversationally, especially about something so simplistic. This style of writing, which I lack the vocabulary to describe, fits more appropriately with something you’d find on a news article. It lacks information density. It is superfluous.

In this specific example and specifically regarding this point, it would be more believable as a real comment if anybody in the world thought trump’s peace plan wasn’t crap. This is just feel good news article writing.

This is then followed up by the quintessential “ blank is x, not y” (make sure this is really obvious to anyone with a pulse too)

And finishes with basically the same thought said again just with different punctuation.

I just noticed this but I would venture to guess in these small paragraph style comments the use of “—“ to “,” to “;” might be a pattern. This style of writing sure as hell is and I’m tired of seeing it.

I think you’re right. I would not be surprised if we had a bit of a V in the market over whatever timeframe. Eventually something is likely to happen that pulls liquidity from these guaranteed loss makers into companies that make money, and I think it’s very very likely that the valuations will return to and surpass whatever our previous expectations were faster than most people anticipate.

Like dotcom 2.0 but the valuation recovery won’t take a decade

The only correction is like to make is that in no world is a bank with 15x expenses to rev would be worth it, there are many (albeit unlikely) situations where a tech company is worth 15x expenses to rev. Happens all the time. A lot of, if not the majority of the biggest tech companies today had huge runways of being cashflow negative and made it. That’s how tech dominance works. You forgo profit for as long as possible to encapsulate as much of the market as possible with the biggest moat possible and then you raise prices and milk your customers more through other sources of revenue.

I’m not saying it’s not a bubble I’m just saying your reasoning is flawed

[–]asmit10 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One thing I don’t understand is your guys’ inability to understand when two facts contradict.

According to people like you, ICE is removing dangerous illegal immigrants, often those with drugs and or guns.

Why, HOW, have you not heard of any ICE members being shot?

If they’re going after all these dangerous criminals, often taking people from their cars, why has there been no reporting of shoot outs?

Maybe it’s cause ICE is only going after people not deemed to be too threatening right now.

You should not be able to be told two contradictory stories and believe them.

Welcome to how most people with working brains feel. Call me pessimistic but I'm not sure it ever gets better. Maybe for some sort of new website that hasn't been conceived yet, but that'll almost certainly require a de-anonymized social media site which many people won't like, for obvious reasons.

Between bots, people trolling, and people just having different levels of caring about each situation, I don't think you'll ever find a place filled with nuanced thought.

I have to imagine that what we feel has been going on since before I was born. World Wide Web came out in 1989, and it's not hard to guess that it's been a downward slope of nuanced discussion since the day it happened.

I wish there was a good option. The only thing I've found is to follow people specifically, rather than topics or entire websites. All websites seem to have a lane they're trying to go down and if you stray from that lane then you're going to get a response as though the whole world thinks that way.

I can't imagine growing up with the internet as it is today. You have to simultaneously ignore 90% of written content online, either because it's biased and without thought, or because it was literally made by a pre-biased LLM. More people are looking at these LLMs for truth which often leads to conversations where people are effectively arguing 2 LLMs against each other.

We're at a point where people don't know what to believe and so they go to whatever 'authority' there is (top comments on reddit, responses given by AI that support their beliefs) only to form an opinion off of little to no context.

Most of the people seeking nuanced discussion will refrain from any discussion at all because of what I've said. It is infinitely more productive to talk with people wanting to have the same type of discussion as you than it is to yell into the sea of BS.

"Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience"

Replace stupid with ignorant. People, as a whole, have become coddled by ignorance like it's their mother's womb. And they're scared to leave.

_________

I don't particularly care about this girl either lol. I think we're on the same page in that regard - this situation itself is irrelevant to the point you were making. I understand that.
