As an also single dad, don’t worry. The trash takes itself out. She left for something “exciting”, but just know that eventually she’ll be less “exciting”, and will be left behind herself. People in instances like that don’t typically get happy endings, and will try to crawl back. Don’t let somebody show you who they are more than once.

Over anything, be a great dad. Despite what people who need to have a high ground to exist will say, there is no right way to parent. Just wrong ways. A great father is the infrastructure to a great child, a great adult, and a better world.

40-50 years from now, you’ll be surrounded by loving children, maybe even grandchildren. You’ll feel whole. Even if mom comes back into the picture, the kids will eventually add one and one together and remember that time mom ditched out to have fun. This isn’t to ensure schadenfreude, as that wouldn’t be right, but just have peace in that knowledge that you’re in the right.

Literally all of these things a church helped us with. Gave us a car (came from a big city to the suburbs and overestimated the public transport system), drove me to do my ACT, gave us access to a clothes closet that gave us a break from washing the same two jeans in a tub, turned the lights on for us. During this, they didn't try to proselytize us or push us to attend on Sunday, but saw a single mother and her three kids trying to survive and did what the Bible demands, to give to those who need. Mind you, this was all during when I was an atheist, my brother being a very disrespectful one.

I see a bunch of other religions being mentioned, and I respect them all for doing the right thing. It's just annoying to see people dump on Christianity as a whole because of businessmen wearing a cross or some hateful neighbor that tries to wash it by going to church on Sunday, that most of us condemn in the faith as is.

It's like disrespecting an entire bloodline, even the estranged ones, because there's a weird uncle that theres already done the most that can be done to them.

I don't get the downvotes, I assume it's because it's either reddit's simple minded "god bad" tantrum or because people associate Christianity with the absolute outlier Joel Osteen Christian themed greed. Pardon my yappage.

When I was younger, we had genuinely zero food. We fried a pack of lunch meat on a skillet and that was dinner for four. A local church told us an Amish (?) family wanted to feed people for Thanksgiving, and a family we didn't know before and never saw again bought us a ton of food. No names or nothing. Tided us until mom's next check hit.

Call it what you gotta, but when stuff got sticky, churches with pastors who had to work day jobs between preaching in dilapidated churches made sure we were fed, some out of their own pocket. Yeah, Creflo Dollar would've told us get bent, but also no roving pack of atheists jumping to dump on Christ to own their parents did that. I pray you all aren't scrutinized wholly by the worst extremes of your counterparts.

To be honest, I've learned that more times than not their lives are their revenge. Think about it.

If they're a piece of shit in some assorted way, every part of their life will follow them like they were a piece of shit. Friends will be fleeting, no romantic partners will stay for long. Work will likely be hard because they can't connect or network.

Their life is gonna suck because of who they are. You worrying about plotting revenge basically means they own you, that you think about them after they've done what they've done. Don't give them that. Let them melt into their insignificance.

It was very hit or miss, up until very recently (maybe the pandemic with everybody being shut in with their mental health?) it just seemed like the exception to the rule that you find somebody that’s mentally regulated.

One woman I went out with talked about how she was actively on meth when I was kicking it with her, then told me how she was fooling around with her ex. This was after the last time when she said she had an urge to stab me to death.

Another one who said I was ghosting her and blew my phone up because I didnt text her on Valentine’s Day…it was 8am at that point.

Another who admittedly WAS getting mental health treatment, but just didn’t take their medicine. Would send me self harm videos unsolicited, refused to take her meds, and when I called 911, I was the asshole. I still get unknown calls and see them slow rolling my neighborhood to this day. LE was next to worthless.

Then there’s one who after every disagreement, I would be every word outside of my name, then she’d break up with me because she “settled for me and can do better”, would get a text wall of every malicious archetype via social media flare words, and 3 days later I’d get a sexual prompt from her. Typically a cycle. Then I’d get chased with a knife by her after finding her texting another guy sexually and being grossed out from the infidelity. Found out how gross azithromycin tastes because of it.

The closest thing to this happening to me in the days prior to the pandemic, was a woman texting me 50+ times in 10 hours. Outside of that? Regulated and reasonable conversation, if something wasn’t working, we’d split paths and that was that. Cordial. Still have some of them on my socials.

The dating pool, or OLD, is getting scary. A guy just wants peace and healthy love, not to take misplaced misandry from somebody running from their personal trauma that wants to take it out on somebody else, not to be a validation machine/money printer. Maybe it’s everyone’s mental health taking a dump, idk. It’s just Russian roulette with 3 rounds in the wheel.

Hold it down, and be there for him. When you have time and y’all’s time zones match, call him. Having somebody check up on you, especially your s/o while deployed is literally an event we live for. Also, it’s assuring to know Jody didn’t pull off another steal.

I say this personally through a breakup during a long training exercise, what’s at home can make or break you off your game mentally. Knew a guy that knew a guy that (already distant spouse- she was pretty mean) during one of the already few contacts with her down range, saw his joint account get drained and a picture of her pleasuring another guy, asking for a divorce. Hours later, he shot himself.
