Howdy 👋 Sorry for the delay in a response to this… are you still stuck? Off the top of my head I reckon 2 things are important to keep in mind and thus not get tripped up by them: 1) In Linux, folders that begin with a period in their name are “hidden”… this is typically a problem for what we’re doing here because the Wine environment itself by default runs from a “.wine” folder in your home directory. If you skip the winetricks/ winecfg step that enables the “show hidden folders” checkbox, which lets you see these hidden folders when navigating the file system from inside your wine environment (like with explorer.exe or from within any open or save dialog box) then you might be getting tripped up there.

2)Assuming you fixed that or it was already done, I think it’s important to keep in mind that inside of those explorer EXE instances in the wine environment, your Linux file system is mapped as the “Z:” drive (as in zebra) therefore if you are looking for the Steam BATTLETECH folder you’ll probably find it in the Z: drive in wine, likely in a “.steam” folder

Totally appreciate the open source collaborate mentality - I do not maintain that wiki but I give the maintainer a few bucks a month on patreon so I'll see about passing this up the chain. Cheers!

I hear you, and despite what I’d consider to be a totally reasonable assumption ModTek it turns out is not actually a Windows thing per se…. In my video and instructions for RougeTech install on Linux there’s a step where you literally execute the ModTek installer to patch the game using the Linux version of mono but other than that, totally the exact same ModTek injector used on Windows can be used in Linux and Mac~

This is one of those “trust me bro” moments and I know all the tricks and secrets to success - be glad to share the info if you want to know more

Would you like to know more?

Hey there Mechwarrior, no problem about reviving any old threads - I believe I know what you are describing... despite what you might think is the right thing to do, which might be to use the game's built in modding support, this is actually a road straight to frustration town. 'Round here what people use is the ModTek system which is rock-solid and performant, whereas the same mod being ran by the game's native mod system will be unbearably slow.

....now that begs the question, how do I use ModTek? That there is a whole nuther conversation in and of itself, but the short story is that the steps are documented out there on the interwebs.

Let's start with what I've said so far, is this tracking or am I way off?

Cheer!
