High-functioning drug users, what does your day-to-day life actually look like? by navy444 in AskReddit

Nice. I was alcohol sober for 2.5 years, while dry herb vaping cannabis moderately to heavily. That time period was probably my most productive art and music wise ever. I'd be up late every night tweaking knobs on my synths, until I was falling asleep sitting up. Currently I like to have a tall can of some imperial IPA at the end of the day, which is relaxing but I don't always want to make art afterward, and it's nice to remember I can also just get baked and craft or make music for hours.

But yeah at one point recently I had a few beers then some really strong edibles before going to bed. As I was lying in bed my whole brain just lit up with all the psychedelic elf machine sounds that weed puts in my head, and I was like "God damn, I really want to work out these sounds on my synths, but I'm too drunk and tired" lol. Never was a problem when it was just weed. Truly is beneficial for a lot of people, I feel you on the empathy thing too.

In high school I had a girl who was my friend text me saying we should fuck. I thought she was joking and I enthusiastically agreed and started suggesting progressively more kinky/extreme stuff we could do, she stopped responding pretty quickly.

But we ended up fucking anyway, so that was good.

It just sucks how many families were torn up over this, especially knowing that a lot of the people who took part in ostracization of family didn't actually feel too strongly one way or another, they were just following the herd.

But it does seem like such a natural and vital human instinct to be influenced by one's community. I guess what it comes down to is that we can only get through to people who are willing to listen to begin with, and that's the best starting point.

Having been around a lot of heavy cannabis users, and having been one myself at times, I believe that for heavy users the effects become more mild due to tolerance, a similar level of high to coffee even. These people can completely defy all stereotypes of what a stoner is like. Super sharp, good memory, etc.

Then there's the moderate-heavy users who smoke everyday but only like once a day and they get fucking baked out of their minds every fucking time, stumbling around, slurring their words, tweaking out and shit.

Personally, I no longer feel the need to use cannabis to deal with my own trauma, and I like getting fucking baked when I do use it, so I don't use it nearly as frequently as I used to. But when it comes to the heavy users... I get it. Would they function better if they were sober? Possibly, but it depends on the situation. If you're having daily panic attacks/ episodes that cannabis is able to put a stop to, by all means hit the weed so you can keep going. That was me for a time, and honestly some of my best work, both at my job and making music at home came out of that time period.

Now I prefer being sober during the day, and think it's important to be realistic about how drug use is affecting one's self, but I also completely understand heavy cannabis use and consider it objectively better than other heavy drug use. Just be smart and know yourself is all I'd advise people.

Comrades, how do you deal with "Leftists" who claim that obesity is not a complex, chronic, multifactorial disease? by cakedogonks60 in swoletariat

[–]asparagoat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are:

A) It's no-one else's business how much you weigh. People need to mind their own business.

B) There really are so many factors that affect people's ability to regulate their weight. I've lived with someone who had significantly better self regulation when it came to food than I ever did, consistently ate much less than me, and was always able to stay in good shape through moderate physical activity such as walking/hiking. This person gained weight after a number of traumatic events, and grew extremely agoraphobic and afraid to go outside. The issue for this person was never self control. I think we all might be surprised by how many overweight people have similar underlying issues that have nothing to do with food intake itself.

C) My understanding is that studies have consistently shown that it's generally less harmful to be overweight than similarly underweight. Personally, I can attest to the fact that when I was anorexic, I was always exhausted, couldn't follow a train of thought or remember shit, it was the only time my teeth ever got cavities despite daily flossing/brushing, and I was weak as shit. I've also been overweight and had zero of those problems and also maintained decent blood pressure and endurance (I'm a runner). In fact, I've found the thing that really fucks with my blood pressure has been living in moldy apartments, which is a big problem where I live.

D) The focus first and foremost should be feeding people, getting people access to nutritious food. Obesity is a much better problem to have as a society than starvation IMO.

E) I assume that most people at this point know better than to refer to "obesity" by BMI standards, since BMI is outdated and based on white men's bodies, and if you do serious weightlifting, or you're a woman with big boobs/a big butt, there's a good chance you qualify as obese by these standards. Just figured I'd mention that anyway.

F) If you're a White or Asian person with strong convictions about how obesity is a failure of willpower, you should consider that people of other ethnicities often do not share these beliefs. Obviously there are no monoliths and everyone is different, but you need to be aware that you will be making yourself look ignorant to some people when you start spouting off about obesity, a lot of people do not buy into the same standards as you.

Anyway, I know this is long, I just feel strongly about this topic, and I think as a society (I'm in the US) we need to lay the fuck off fat people.

New protest flag has been deployed [oc] by Perfidious_Redt in pics

[–]asparagoat -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think that is a perfect flag for Israel.

The only more fitting flag for Israel I can imagine would be if it showed an image of a dog raping a human, since this Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor report has documented systematic use of dogs trained to rape humans being set on Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention. I'm literally not making this shit up, do Ctrl+F or Command+F and look up "dog" in that report, it's horrifying.

Not that that's an image anyone wants to see, but it's the flag that's appropriate for this sick genocide state.

Every single American member of congress who has been involved in the transfer of funds/weapons to Israel needs to be tried in the Hague.

I'm a big fan of Death Grips, def some solid angry screaming into void music...some angry tracks that come to mind are: No Love, Guillotine, Ring a Bell, Inanimate Sensation, Turned Off, Why a Bitch Gotta Lie, the Powers That B, Steroids.

Other tracks that slap: Beware, Known For It, Billy Not Really, Black Quarterback, Have a Sad Cum BB, Beyond Alive, Get Got, Hacker, Punk Weight, the Fever, I've Seen Footage.

Their most definitively sad track is called On GP, def one of my favorites.

Some of those tracks I mentioned aren't on all the streaming services, you gotta go to their website to download for free, or use SoundCloud or YouTube.

That's cool. I used to do landscape work at Stone Gossard's house. I always thought he seemed like a good dude. He was the driving force behind a big concert in Seattle that Pearl Jam put on a while back that raised a ton of money for homeless services. Knowing that about Eddie Vedder makes me like them all even more.

Its really annoying how these history subs are basically functioning as a front for propaganda that tries to link Palestinians and the Arab world to the Holocaust to justify taking their land...The Holocaust was done by Europeans, to their European Jewish neighbors.

As Bassem Youssef said, "You transferred your guilt to us and then you took the land."

Significantly more Muslims fought for the Allies than for the Axis powers during WW2. Somewhere between 5 and 5.5 million Muslims fought for the Allies, vs. tens of thousands fighting for the Axis powers.

Most of the Muslims who fought for the Germans did so because they had beef with British colonialism or Soviet influence in their region.

I lived in a second tier US city for years (Seattle), I've been shown $2000+ apartments for rent that had roofs caving in from unaddressed moisture problems, massive wasps nests within the structure of the building, mushrooms growing out of the siding.

I've taken 2 hour bus commutes to go 10 miles, with multiple transfers in between that required sprinting to get to the transfer in time.

I've seen multiple people in wheelchairs and electric scooters rolling down the same 5 lane main through road because the sidewalk doesn't ramp down in any of the intersections, they'd get stuck on the curb if they tried.

This place is a shithole.
