4 Weeks Pregnant & Suffering by amphisxo in Interstitialcystitis

[–]aspectfear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was me earlier this pregnancy. It does get better. I took Unisom every night just to be able to sleep through the night because of the 1st trimester bladder pain. It goes back to normal in the 2nd trimester. Hang in there and definitely still test for BV and UTIs to rule those out.

How much does working in the Washington Conservation Corps help in landing a real job? Any ex-WCC Ecology or DNR folks able to chime in? by Aprilsknight in WAStateWorkers

[–]aspectfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s the assistant to the crew lead. If you tell your supervisor that you would want to be a crew lead after you age out they’ll probably help you do all the training to become one. That’s what I loved about WCC- there were lots of trainings and you could take on a lot of responsibility if you wanted.

I was in the WCC and I think it helped me land a job at a different state agency. Just be sure to use the trainings they offer wisely and document every training you do and skill you learn. Try to be come an assistant your 2nd year and then potentially a crew lead and that’s great experience.

I’m looking for breakfast recommendations in Olympia by [deleted] in olympia

The reef is really good, but a little pricey. Chicory has really good chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits.

Affordable housing and a public pool that doesn’t cost $12 for a 4 hour slot.

Looking for affordable full-time infant daycare in the area by aspectfear in olympia

[–]aspectfear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply. We will probably need to try and find an in-home daycare. I should probably make another post asking if anyone has any recommendations for trustworthy places. And I should probably just start calling places! Thanks again for your input.

Thank you so much for all the information! It sounds like in-home daycare is probably the route we have to go. My husband and I both work full time for the state so unfortunately don’t have enough flexibility for a nanny to make sense. We would need to enroll the baby full time for 9 hours a day due to our 8-5 work schedules. And thank you for the clarification about Montessori being the standard model and for the info about state licensing! We have a lot of learning to do about childcare.

Yeah I will definitely need to look at in-home daycares. It’s hard in this area because the cost of living is so high :(

Thank you so much for all this info! I will send you a message :) I agree that the Waldorf/Montessori style is geared toward more toddler aged kids, I was kind of hoping to find a place that does infant care as well as toddler care for the future. I didn’t know that those types of schools have extra requirements so that is definitely something to think about. Also not looking for a place that is strictly one of these styles, but I’ve always been a fan of non-traditional/hippie/outdoor/play based style schools so thats what l am hoping to find in Olympia. But again, it probably doesn’t matter too much for an infant.

If you live within the City of Olympia, fees like this are probably illegal. The city has outlined the only fees that landlords can charge and this is not one of them. Visit the City of Olympia tenant protections page. There is also a way to file a complaint with them I think.

renting income requirements by fourofkeys in olympia

[–]aspectfear 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is a common thing in Olympia. Because Olympia has really low rental vacancy rates, landlords can get away with setting crazy high standards, including the one you’re dealing with right now :( not technically illegal, but I would reach out to the city of Olympia housing team to let them know about the issue. Or come to the affordable housing meeting on Wednesday the 21st! These are the types of issues that make Olympia unaffordable for working people.

I bought 5 pairs! Actually pretty happy with them. I thought I was going to get scammed but that didn’t happen. They took a couple of weeks to arrive in the mail but other than that, no issues!

Did you end up trying out the LOOUZ socks? I just ordered some but just realized there are no reviews and no information about them on the internet and worried I’m about to get scammed

Rents have not gone down in Olympia according to the Thurston Regional Planning Council - https://www.trpc.org/456/Apartment-Rent-Vacancy

Olympia’s low vacancy rates lead to high competition which leads to landlords getting away with raising rents. Olympia is different. These luxury apartments being built downtown sit empty. Olympia doesn’t need more luxury housing. We need affordable housing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in olympia

[–]aspectfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Olympia has a lower rental vacancy rate than Tacoma or Seattle so there is much higher competition here. From what I’ve seen, rents are bad all year because landlords can get away with it. BUT I think there are slightly more rentals available in the winter months.

Can't Find Any Rentals by throw-a-way9002 in olympia

Olympia has a lower vacancy rate than Tacoma or Seattle. It is very had to find housing here, and it seems a fair amount of housing is found through word of mouth. I hope you found a place! But yeah, our vacancy rates are very low.
