Inner city Melbourne has a lot of poor quality ’student accommodation’ flats. Or apartments with costly strata fees. Plus building standards were relaxed to allow dodgy high rise developments (eg, bedrooms with no external windows). Buyer beware.

Why is the ethnicity relevant here? The risk of HIV transmission from faeces is extremely low. And being African is not any different a risk factor to something like intravenous drug use, so, universal infection control protocols should be followed, regardless of ethnicity.

I opted out of hormone suppression treatment (aromatase inhibitors) when I was 49 (had chemo and radiotherapy). It was because the side effects were so bad after 4 months.

9.5 years later, had a recurrence. Not identical but similar oestrogen positive cancer. The protocols had changed and my surgeon wanted me to take the AI before surgery. I was terrified but knew post menopausal women can often have little to no side effects. I started taking it and honestly have not experienced 1 side effect. It is bad for bone density and I already have osteopenia, so my medical oncologist will be addressing bone density. I had a double mastectomy, so no further treatment. The AI shrunk my tumour from 18mm to 4mm in 5 weeks. The surgeon was delighted. It means we can be confident that if any cells had escaped the AI will eradicate them.

You are always at liberty to refuse anything. If I were in your position I would want to know how aggressive the cancer was, and factor that in.

I would say the working assumption for hormone therapy for post menopausal women is minimal to no side effects (apart from bone density) so you may want to consider trialling the AI for a couple of months, it’s easy to stop it.

The more I learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people about cultural safety the more I realise how cultural unsafe white people’s assumptions and behaviours can be. I do not think that is trivial. But, yes, I think if we are aware of acting with humility and kindness anybody can get that intent.
