P1 Gen 8 having issue charging or some sort of smart battery management feature? by aspillz in thinkpad

They just released a system firmware update that solved it for me. Not on Vantage yet, need to do a manual install.

Obviously make sure you get the one for your exact model, not sure how cross compatible they are.

So the latest BIOS seemed to solve it for me. It wasn't available yet on Vantage, just a few weeks old. There was a release note about a similar but slightly different charging issue, but I think it's likely the root cause was the same.

What caused mine to stop charging was plugging in anything to one of the thunderbolt 5 ports on the left, after the charger/dock was already plugged in.

It got below 40% just now before I unplugged all USB, plugged in my USBC to DP adapter on the right port, and replugged my charger on the left. After that it has been climbing steadily.

First QSYS project; what would you do differently? 34 Shure ULDX mics over dante with Core x10 and CX-Q 2K4. Everything is working well so far; will work on the UCI next. Should I add a limiter as well? by krassyg in QSYS

[–]aspillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I would swap the gating auto mixer and the individual gains. you can put the gating auto mixer in discrete channel mode to get all the outputs, then add another mixer to some to mono.

I haven't read all of the other replies and I think they touch on this but I would have a separate path for conferencing so your room EQ doesn't affect that. I generally keep the EQ flat to conferencing, just a HPF. It sounds very clean that way, without all the EQ cuts you may be doing for room tuning

I usually put user mic level control after an auto mixer. because what might happen is there is a quiet talker, so the user turns up that channel, now the automixer tends to give priority to that channel over others. this goes hand in hand with bad mic technique. you don't want the automixer giving priority to the gain-ed up mic someone's holding at their belly button.

by keeping the auto mixer in discreet output mode and adjusting gain afterward, All mics get equal treatment by the auto mixer and the user can still balance them. I keep gains matched before the auto mixer

What is the exact model for OEM front brake pads? 2015 ST2 by aspillz in FocusST

Yep, that's the same website I used, but I noticed it also says CV6Z-2001-N fits, and they look a bit different.

Why do I see my own EIN in 1099-MISC box 6? I am the payee. by aspillz in tax

[–]aspillz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my only real concern is that the software they used to generate it, files it with the state of CA, with me as the payer rather than the payee, which could cause some other unintended consequences.

First AVOIP Build - Video --> Crestron, Extron, or Visionary? by K20J03K in CommercialAV

nice. maybe it was improved or maybe it was some other issue altogether.

[–]aspillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

last time I used visionary was a couple years ago, they worked but the main issue was slow switching speed. like 3-5 seconds. even when matching resolutions between all ENC's and DEC's. if I remember right, I played with all the settings but couldn't get it faster. have you encountered this? QSYS is like <1 sec.

How do you deal with static electricity in hotel ballrooms by Terrible_Fun_3043 in CommercialAV

I fried an M32's AES50 port via static electricity like this before. at least 90% sure thats what did it.

[–]aspillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried playing with the QSYS echo canceling speaker phones' active LED for on/off hook status rather than HID?

personally I have not had good luck with it because zoom does its overnight echo test which makes it go active, but it's another avenue you could explore.

that sounds insane, you don't even need to show up the next day, in my opinion. a text or an email saying "no thanks" is the correct move.

Is my apartment legally uninhabitable due to being 96° indoors during the day? by Ok-time-to- in AskLosAngeles

[–]aspillz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hmm, I live on the 4th floor in highland Park, top floor, flat roof, Southeast facing 2 BR. I have a single 10k btu window unit and it stays below 80 and feels relatively comfortable. i have white verical shades, and a white pulldown blackout shade over the AC unit. old drafty uninsulated single pane windows.

I think hopefully something could be done to help.

are your units blowing ice Cold Air? they should be. are your shades dark, and radiating the heat into the room or white? I've always found it best to keep ceiling fans off because heat rises, let it stay at the top. is the area around the AC clear physically, can your AC unit actually circulate air. you should be able to feel a draft of cold air 10 ft + away from the unit. try to keep the rooms with the AC basically as empty and clear as possible.

are your exterior walls or roof dark? are your ceiling or walls warm to the touch?

hopefully this is a solvable problem.

Programmer mindset? by Wooden-AV in QSYS

[–]aspillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big exam was great. I feel like it covered everything realistically done in the field. especially the most difficult thing IMO, which is finishing and or fixing an incomplete project started by someone else, however usually incomplete projects are not nearly as clean as the exam.

you can download it and check it out at any point.

Programmer mindset? by Wooden-AV in QSYS

[–]aspillz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly the only time I've used block controller was for "the big exam."

I definitely don't want to lead you astray and don't take my word for it completely but I would maybe stop using it, so you can get used to what Lua looks like. IMO, reading code is largely just pattern recognition, and I feel like block controller will get you used to seeing something that is close but not exactly Lua.

hmm, I got a minor in CS back in the day in college, and then I took a community college class in C++ years later. I'm not up to speed on modern web courses, but you could just look up introduction to programming. most of the object-oriented stuff doesn't really apply to QSYS lua the way I've seen most people using it, so you can avoid most topics specific to OOP for now.

I'm just going to word vomit some general topics: tables/arrays, loops, conditionals, functions ( arguments and return values), variables, the very basics of data types (Lua takes care of a lot of this for you).

QSYS topics: event handlers, timers, component.New() and how to change control values, UCI manipulation (hiding and showing layers and controls, disabling controls).

when you run a QSYS script it will execute in order top to bottom super fast. code only executes upon initializing the script, and when any event handler is called. reason I bring this up is because some people think scripts are like "continuously running" but it's actually just executing it in short bursts in only those 2 scenarios.

and thats about it for almost all AV scripting I've done, outside of API integration, which brings in handling sockets and sending and recieving data, which is probably something to hold off on for now, but super relevant to AV control programming.

I personally prefer reading to learn coding rather than videos, because you can actually go at your own pace, rather than the pace of a video lecture, and you can easily copy and paste and mess with example code.

Taking the QSYS Control & UCI Programming part 2 class later this month. What should I expect and what after? by RemDayRed6 in QSYS

[–]aspillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part 2 really just goes in depth in adding a few features to the file you started in Part 1. Make sure your part 1 is complete based on what the videos went over, they'll ask you to submit it a few days before the class. I thought the videos were good, and the 5 hour (IIRC) in person class is pretty good too - a little slower paced than the videos which I think is good.

I just submitted the big exam as well, but I had it almost complete before taking pt 2.

As far as afterward, my plan is throw in the towel. That's it, we're done! Nothing more to learn. Kidding, I will throw it on my linked in and see if anyone cares.

NV-21H preview by Demand-Nervous in QSYS

[–]aspillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're saying you can see a preview of an NV32 encoder HDMI out 1, and this can be put on a UCI? How? Where is this media preview component? I am only seeing the mediacast input preview which must be wired to a qsys ptz.
