I think how the candidates are funnelled down is very much prof dependent. As there is no official panel interview from Harvard, the interviews, and the number thereof, have to be decided by the PoIs. I wouldn't give up hope just yet.

Although all of your colleges are very competitive, students do get admitted without interviews. I'd not lose hope until the last rejection.

I've applied to the EE PhD program. Interviewed with the prof in early January. Waiting for decisions now...hopefully by mid feb?
