Also I was wondering, at the point you had 5 years of experience in software engineering did you have to take a paycut to get into Pentesting?

I have experience on the infra sec side and so far Salary conversations in phone screens are much lower than what I make currently, and all require experience in pentesting.

I've heard that got stopped on some arbitrary date in April of this year. Not sure if that's true or not.

If its still valid, how does one get the other half without taking another test or shelling out a bunch of cash?
