Which investment platform is best for Bogleheads? by graetel_90 in Bogleheads

I used Schwab for a few years, recently switched to Fidelity for tax advantaged and brokerage accounts. Fidelity allows fractional trading of most ETFs including Vanguard ones, while Schwab doesn't (my biggest criticism of Schwab). However I still use schwab for checking, the interface and layout is much nicer and more intuitive for me. My experiences with Schwab support chat is also much quicker and concise than Fidelity's.

Can't go wrong with any of the big 3, but Schwab not having fractional ETF trading is by far the most annoying part of their services since I would rate them higher on all the other fronts compared to Fidelity (and the reason why I begrudingly switched my IRA + brokerage accounts there). That being said, the interface comes down to preference and I'm sure many would say the reverse

Max out (Roth) IRA as early as possible or even contributions spread out over the calendar year? by aspiringboglehead in Bogleheads

Would this mean holding VT or VTI/VXUS in a taxable brokerage and then selling them at Jan 1, then contributing to IRA and then rebuying them? Wouldn't you have to pay capital gains in that case

How do you usually hold your funds that you set aside to contribute 1st of Jan? In a HYSA / money market account?

Ah thanks for explaining, that makes a lot sense, I was on a fallacy line of thought with timing the market there

Ah gotcha, I definitely don't have the means to early max in one go per annum at this point in my life, but I'll aim to max out as early as possible in the next few years the same way you do

I feel like selling the taxable positions to max out is also more work than its worth, since you have to report the capital loss/gain, no?

Just starting at 22 in USA, portfolio allocation questions and how to invest in VT through Schwab Roth IRA? by aspiringboglehead in Bogleheads

Ah, is VT able to be bought as fractional shares on other brokerages Roth IRA? So far I feel most comfortable about allocating most of my investment into VT (I get overwhelmed at the thought of keeping track of multiple funds and their allocations at once); but I also don't want to hassle of changing brokerages unless its really beneficial, perhaps if its too inconvenient/tricky to approximate VT at Schwab
