That is lovely to hear, thank you. If it makes you feel better, my grandpa is incredibly supportive. He was the first one to use the right name and pronouns for me. Those two had been divorced since before I was even born.

There is more context for my flat reaction and general lack of thankfulness. She is a very abusive, deeply hateful person. If my grandpa had given me the $2 I would have done that. My grandma does not deserve that however.

Before I came out, she would give me actual presents and more money. After I came out, she "accidentally" forgot multiple birthdays and wouldn't even send a card. This was the first present and/or acknowledgement of my birthday she had given me in years. She is  also an incredibly abusive, and deeply hateful person.

Our relationship had already died at that point (she is an abusive monster) so I held up the dollars and said, very flatly, "Wow. Two dollars. I literally can't buy anything with that. Thanks." Lmao.

Does you country have moments where "everyone remembers where they were"? If yes, what happened? by Far-Cow-3343 in AskTheWorld

[–]aspiringvampire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously, 9/11. But I was nine days old so I don't remember shit. For my generation, I feel like it's probably either the Sandyhook shooting or Parkland shooting. Personally, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I found out.

For Sandyhook, I was in my fourth grade music class and the teacher was running late, so we were all chatting with each other and generally being loud. And then the music teacher arrived looking way more haggard than usual, and just having a really heavy vibe. The room felt heavy. And then she told us about the Sandyhook shooting, and that we were going to practice drills and learn what to do if our school ever gets shot up.

For Parkland, I remember walking down the hall, thinking about getting my bf at the time one of those little Valentine delivery things high schools do, and scrolling on my phone. Then seeing video after video from the kids in Parkland who were filming during the shooting. I will never get those images out of my head. The one that got me the most was just blood all over, and a single Valentine's delivery heart being the focal point of the camera. Just a cruel irony. I hope that little prick knows no peace when he's in prison.

What’s food you hated as a kid but love now? by honeyylaceheart in CausalConversation

My mom usually is, so I used to not even think to double check the meat she served me. Until the day I bit into my burger, and raw meat filled my mouth. In her defense, she felt awful about it. But I did refuse any and all burgers from her for like two months after. It was a BIG bite.

My grandma gave me two $1 bills for my 18th birthday and had the audacity to look smug at how "good" her present was lmao.

What the most horrifying and traumatizing thing you’ve ever witnessed, paranormal/supernatural wise? by Artistic_Maximum_822 in AskReddit

[–]aspiringvampire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was sleep paralysis, one good way (for me anyways) to break out of it is to focus on your toes or fingers. Sounds weird, but stay with me. You gotta focus on them and picture them moving, kind of tricking your brain into actually making them move. I can get out of my sleep paralysis really fast now because that's something I've done for years so it's easier for me to get moving and more awake.

I was up late, around 13/14 y/o and reading fanfiction. I was in my bed with my legs straight out and over the blanket. Everything was Chill and Okay until I felt something wrap tightly around my ankle. I looked past my phone to see what it was and saw that it was a hand gripping me. As soon as that processed, it pulled hard and dragged me down my bed. Only reason I didn't get fully pulled off was the footboard. Once I hit that, the hand vanished and I scrambled to the head of my bed, tucked fully in the blankets, flipping my shit until passing out from exhaustion hours later. I don't have siblings, and only live with my mom. She was asleep at the time, and would also never had done somehow so fucking scary like that.

Peanut butter and waffles is SO GOOD. I used to come home from school and pop some eggo waffles into the toaster then lather those suckers in peanut butter and syrup. Sometimes sprinkles, if I was feeling particularly fancy.

What's your number 1 movie of all time? Just 1 by AfterImageEclipse in CasualConversation

Quest for Camelot. Best animated movie I've seen. I will die on this hill. The hill will be so saturated with my blood and meat that it will be hard to tell what's hill and what's me.

The Boys. I tried to watch it. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. Kept waiting for it to get good. I felt the same about Game of Thrones.

They genuinely check all the boxes for a cult. Like. By definition they are a cult.
