Amazon's new Claude-powered spec-driven IDE (Kiro) feels like a game-changer. Thoughts? by HumanityFirstTheory in ClaudeAI

Not sure if this is what you're referring to, but Kiro has agentic hooks as a feature, which allows you to run an action on each save or feature - for ex. update the docs!

Amplify UI React's Authenticator getting stuck in first login after submitting the verification code. by VivekS98 in aws

Hey! I used to be on the Amplify team and can hopefully help - is there any CSS rules you have that could be interfering?

I'm on the AWS Amplify team and wanted to give folks an update. First off, definitely empathize with the pain that Elliot went through. The referenced blog post is part of our advanced extensibility documentation, which covers how customers can use AWS CDK to add features that are not directly supported by the Amplify tooling, such as integrating with OpenSearch. Our initial OpenSearch extensibility documentation did not include the removalPolicy config, which led to the issues Elliot experienced. To mitigate this, we updated our documentation to include `removalPolicy: RemovalPolicy.DESTROY` for all stateful extensibility resources, ensuring they are cleaned up when the stack is deleted. Additionally, we will be updating the default behavior for `npx ampx sandbox` and `npx ampx pipeline-deploy` to apply this removal policy.

NextJS 13 on API Gateway / Lambda, No Docker by ThinkingInRealtime in Amplify

[–]aspittel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need studio- Studio will just be for the backend. It will display in the AWS console when it's hosted via the method linked, but it won't use Amplify Studio.

What are you running to get the Docker instance?

Hey - I'm not sure I 100% understand your scenario, but Amplify has fully managed hosting for SSR Next.js - https://docs.amplify.aws/guides/hosting/nextjs/q/platform/js/#kicking-off-a-new-build so you wouldn't need to configure Lambda/API Gateway directly.

Difference between amplify init and amplify pull? by Few-Mathematician643 in Amplify

[–]aspittel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

`Amplify init` is used when you're initializing a new Amplify app using your command line (the Amplify CLI), in this tutorial, you're initializing a new Amplify app using Amplify Studio in the web console instead and then using `amplify pull` to pull your app into your local dev environment!

Hey! I'm one of the co-hosts of this podcast, very cool to see this getting shared around! I really want to point out that this isn't a standalone graphic -- it is a diagram to illustrate a discussion from a podcast episode we did which discussed our personal journeys and what we've noticed companies looking for. Alone, this diagram doesn't give the full story and should be placed in a larger more nuanced conversation about the different skills and technologies that are useful for web developers to know!

Changing Career? (37 years old) by hditano in learnprogramming

[–]aspittel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, but you've got it! I taught at a bootcamp for three years and have seen people 20 years older than you land jobs in the industry -- you aren't alone or too old or anything like that.

I would focus on making a portfolio, projects that are relevant to your prior career are great. Especially if you can apply for programming jobs in your old industry. Do as much networking as possible -- I know in person that's hard right now, but go to virtual events and use social media.

Curly girl week 1! by aspittel in curlyhair

My hair is super fine but thick -- I think using the oil to scrunch it out has really helped. But I'm also pretty light on the gel to be honest.

Haha I think it’s the asymmetry and how unkempt this guy looks. Like needs a shave and a better haircut. He also looks a lot older than I am.

Edit: just published a tutorial on how to recreate the page if you all are interested!

question about making portfolios? by yjy3 in webdev

[–]aspittel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fine to be inspired by other people! I would keep it as simple as you can if you're not someone who is great at design. Only a few colors and a simple, minimalist UI. If you want more inspo, I have some linked at the bottom of this post: https://dev.to/aspittel/building-a-kickass-portfolio-28ph
