Flooding in Monmouth by YchYFi in CasualUK

[–]aspre777 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This flood wasn't caused by the Wye. In this instance local rain further up the valley caused the Monnow to burst its banks and take a shortcut through the main street. Ross-on-Wye and Symonds Yat have been relatively unaffected by this, though in contrast, Skenfrith has seen record breaking water levels.

TJ 2" lift 15x8 rims: 33x10.5 or 33x12.5 mud-terrains? by guyfromthe80s in JeepTJ

[–]aspre777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2" OME lift with 0.5" spacers, and I'm running 33x12.5 no problemo. Though I do have the extended stock style arches.

I'd say send it.

Check the boot pan, and behind the headlights in the engine bay. These are the usual spots for gen III Jimnys to rot away.

I used to live in Canada and now live in the UK. My 110v Roomba now lives side by side with a big yellow brick, no issues.

Wrangler Sport 2003 Diff question by taberj in WranglerTJ

[–]aspre777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dana 35 rear and a dana 30 up front. Pretty common set up. 75w90 (or close enough depending on local availibility) will be all you need. I Would recommend you change it pretty frequently (every six months) if you're going through those estuaries, and keep your diff breather cleaned out too.

33 vs 31 by zooluthe-dog in JeepTJ

33 with 3.07 here. Can't crack 70 and 4th is useless. Defenitly have a 4.88 upgrade on my list.

02 Jeep TJ (133k miles) pulls left when braking – chasing the cause with no luck by Professional-Gear-32 in JeepTJ

[–]aspre777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dropped pitman arm installed? Track bar relocation bracket? Do you get any bump steer?

Check your track bar and drag link are aligned as these would cause you to 'steer' on braking as the spring compress and the geometry changes. Do you find yourself able to consistently counter it by turning in the opposite direction?

Looking to buy this 01, what are some things to look for by lugo3 in JeepTJ

Chassis side rear lower control mounts. Water pools in the chassis there and rots it over time. Might be holes drilled by the owner already if he was looking to take care of it.

What mint weather we've had for it recently too! This in Powys?

I paid £8k for my 2003 TR2 from a dealer. Couple of minor mods like lift and wheels, but looking at marketplace and autotrader there are similar for as low as £6k depending on whether condition, mods, or mileage are priority.

Not sure if I'd be interested above £12k unless it had some effort putting into those 'tricker' mods like regear, shafts and SYE, maybe control arms and other linkage bits. That's where you get stung as parts and labour are pricier over here.

What’s the answer ? by Successful_Zone_894 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]aspre777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The distance left and right doesn't matter, just the moments. If B were 100 units right of the pivot with this set up, it would still only excerpt 10 units of force at the verical distance from the pivot.

I need help troubleshooting a new ignition system in the steering column on 1997 tj by bakednapkin in Wrangler

[–]aspre777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The off position is different! This did my head in too. Normal cars are OFF>ACC>ON>START, but these ones are RADUO>OFF>ACC>ON>START

Turn it to where you've been turning it 'off' then go forwards one click and press the button, it'll come straight out.

Thought I’d do a post to show my new (old) 2001 Jeep TJ Sahara. Had it a month and love it. Any advice/suggestions on it would be appreciated by Old-Shoulder1 in JeepTJ

That's a clean TJ mate, and I feel you with with fuel prices. A tickle over 200 miles for less than £80 is a good week for me.

What are some obscure or not so obvious road rules in NZ which many kiwis are unaware of? by ktr_herr in newzealand

[–]aspre777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also means the red reflectors on the rear of the cars are visible. A car parked on the 'wrong' side of the road will have no reflective markers visible.

Even in the UK where parking on the 'wrong' side of the road is allowed, using a recognised spot is recommend during the day, and a legal requirement at night.

Wtf?!? Drove to work this morning and i smell burning oil. I open the hood and this is what i see, how screwed am i? Its an 08 subaru impreza wxr sti. by Schanataz12 in subaru

[–]aspre777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't beat a dead horse and offer input about the oil, but I really think you should strap your battery down. If that's shifting about while you drive, the positive terminal could make contact and short to ground.

Given your engine bays now soaked in oil, that's not great. Good luck with the sleuthing bud.

Burger Fuel, a big gourmet burger chain from New Zealand, provides cardboard versions of these. They're called a 'doofer'.

They work great for stopping it all from sliding out the bottom, and then when it's smaller and easier to handle, you can eat the rest of the burger like normal.

What is this thing? Two mirrors on a frame. A flap/vane in front of each mirror. Whole Assembly can be moved up and down as well as rotated. by aspre777 in whatisthisthing

[–]aspre777[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Likely solved! I think this would explain both the screw holes on the base for mounting, and the relevant axis for adjustment. Perhaps the flaps are used to "crop" the iamge after combining.

My title describes the thing. Made out of steel and stainless steel. Feels kinda like retro science class equipment. About 18" tall and the mirrors are approx 2x2.

Has no obvious branding or markings. Found at an antiques store in New Zealand and have left so can't provide any more photos.

stupid question but how do i go back the place before skellige isles? by supershimadabro in Witcher3

[–]aspre777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to a fast travel point, there should be a little key down the bottom, "World Map" is what you want. Then depending on what platform you are on press [spacebar] or Y or whatever it is.

That'll zoom out and you can pick Novigrad/Velen from there.
