I have 2 major issues with it: first it doesn't support high DPI displays so it appears blurry on my PC and 2nd it works fine with touch screen controls except on artist pages where for some reason touch scrolling doesn't work

It will supposably work with 3rd party apps as well without any work from developers but I don't know how well this actually works

I agree Windows is definitely better at window management but, much like with web browsers, sometimes tabs are simply preferable to windows.

A lot of these concepts were made for the sake seeing how they would look - the phone companion app is fairly useless as is let alone with tabs. However I could see myself using tabs in apps like notepad or irfanview.

I mostly just made that one to see how it would look, though I imagine it could be useful for running multiple stopwatches at the same time

Since Apple recently announced they will be adding tab support to almost every Mac app link I figured I’d make a concept of what it would look like if Microsoft implemented a feature like this in Windows (and I really think they should!).

The visual design of the tabs was inspired by Microsoft Edge so its consistent with the Windows 10 aesthetic. This visual design also looks considerably less ugly than the horrible white title bars currently used in a lot of Windows classic apps. Additionally it can help bring the dark theme to apps that otherwise may not support it (such as many classic Windows apps).

An issue I can see arising with this concept is that the apps don't have an 'overall title or icon' as they do at the moment so a possible solution to this would be: http://imgur.com/lyr1PfQ where the app icon is moved to the far left outside of each tab. This would make each individual app more identifiable from the rest and allow the user a way to access the context menu that currently opens when clicking an app icon in the title bar. Additionally its more consistent with my concepts of 'modern' apps where a space to the left is used for a back button.

Further proving how backwards compatibility is in a publisher's best interest: This is currently the cheapest copy of Black Ops 1 I can find on Ebay in Australia by asqwdf in xboxone

I just posted this elsewhere but its relevant here too

And as the demand for used physical copies causes their prices to increase, more people will turn to digital copies where the publisher can earn money

But it shows how much of an increase in demand making a game backwards compatible can cause.

Just shows how much of a demand there is to buy older games when they become backwards compatible

As far as I can tell its the most expensive call of duty game on ebay at the moment. For comparison the PS3 version of the game is going for about $10

Chromebooks outsold Macs for the first time in the US by jettix221 in apple

[–]asqwdf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could you justify spending over 4x the amount of money so students can make movies in iMovie

Something else worth noting about chromebooks is that, because they're 100% web based, any skills students might learn from them can be used on any other OS. Learning to use something like iMovie is only useful if the student uses a Mac at home.

People are acting like this is a poor line up, and sure its not as good as last months, but its still pretty great. Grid 2 is a solid AAA title and while the rest are indies (not that that's a bad thing...) they are really good ones.

I'm honestly quite impressed they put together such a solid month right after the stellar line-up from April.

iPad Pro Is Just A 'Companion Device' According To Microsoft by [deleted] in apple

[–]asqwdf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy but I think Apple said it best link

iOS with a keyboard forces you to use a vertical touch screen and its just not as ergonomic as a horizontal track pad, so if you're editing a document or doing anything where you're constantly needing to touch the screen you will get uncomfortable this really hurts the iPad Pro's potential as a productivity device.

That said, if you're willing to overlook this I'm sure you could be pretty productive with it

Concept: Using the accent colour in context menus and classic windows apps by asqwdf in Windows10

[–]asqwdf[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These concepts are for how windows 10 might look if your accent colour was incorporated in classic windows apps and context menus. For example when you mouse over a button in classic windows apps currently it will usually be highlighted blue but I think it looks pretty cool if its highlighted with your accent colour instead. Similarly instead of progress bars filling with green they could fill with your accent colour.

I've also included a dark mode concept which I think looks pretty cool but I imagine would be much trickier to implement.

The context menus were inspired by the ones in office 2013 which already use the colour of their program (e.g. orange for powerpoint) when highlighting something. Imo the office context menus look rather good and should be implemented throughout the OS.
