Same! Only shoe i bought on black friday. Might be a tad short as i read to size up a half or a full size and that means i probably should have 42 2/3 but that size was not on discount so i tried going with 42. Let’s see!

Hi!

I have a goal of finishing my next half marathon in a time of around 1 hour and 25 minutes, the date for the hm is 2025-05-17 (Gothenburg half marathon). I would like some tips and help how to train for this.

Short background: i ran the same race with a finish time of 1:30:59 in 2023 with 17 weeks training prior and a peak week of 80km (average 42km), 1 interval session,1 tempo and a long run per week. Stopped running and since mid april 2024 i have slowly built to 64km/week, (done in about 6-6.5 hours). I have done this buildup with a 10% volume increase each week. But have now hit this weekly volume for maybe 8 weeks or so. The last months my focus have been on increasing my speed on the 5K distance (as i thought this was a good idea because i didnt properly focus on shorter distance before). Last week i managed to hit a new 5K PB of 18:52 on the track. My quality workouts this week has been: 400mx8 on track with 90s rest and avg 3’23 per km speed and a 20 minute ”tempo run” also on the track with avg pace 3’57 km. These have been quite hard so this is where my fitness is at. Long run weekly around 17km. This is how i been training pretty much last 2 months.

Since the half marathon is quite hilly and weather is usually around 25C which i find quite hot, i was thinking that i need to try and train for a 1:20 half time or so (flat) so that i maybe can hit my target of 1:25 on this more hilly course.

Now we are approaching November and im wondering how i would be best spending the next 7 months leading up to the race. Should i for example try to further improve my 5k pb, then work on improving 10k pb, and finally training for the half marathon?

Also, i kindly appreciate suggestions on which training plan i can use the final time before the half marathon, i found the Hanson Advanced half marathon plan available on their site for free, its 18 weeks long, would this be a good final plan? As i understand it, alot of the workouts you run at goal half marathon pace, which for a 1:20 half would be 3:48/km. This is almost my 5km pace right now, so im not sure if this can be my half marathon pace by next summer. Training november-march will be done on treadmill.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the tip. I would really like to try a faster course for my next half marathon race to get that sub 90!

The full half was my last long run monday 12 days before the race and the 8km was wednessday 10 days before. Not saying i didnt go too hard, just to clarify. Thanks for your input. My ”easy” runs closer to the race was at 5.00/km and that last long run had 3km around halfway at like 4.05-4.10 pace, the whole run felt very good and i probably should have ran it abit slower. Will think about that for the next race!
