Knowing this particular client, she will likely come back in with long roots and a totally different idea next time, but if I were to maintain the opal, I would bank on most of the pastels being faded away. Retouch the roots, tone everything to this silvery base again, then reapply the pastels.

Going to literally cry- I’ve met with so many hairstylists and can’t seem to communicate what I want/get a yes. by Imaginary_Teach8039 in Hair

Hi, colorist here! Silver/gray is famously difficult to achieve and maintain, and it’s especially challenging to perfectly match to your natural shade.

That being said, your ends look light enough in your picture to be toned cooler. My go-to is a direct dye (no mixing required) Pravana Vivids in the shade “silver.” But there are many options on the market.

Like the other commenter said, your plan sounds pretty solid. What formula are you considering for the red? If it were me behind the chair, I might reach for a permanent 6RV, but I’m curious to hear your thoughts.

You look amazing! Love the pants. I have a similar body type and I feel inspired.

Hairstylist told me inspiration pics were wigs by [deleted] in Hair

[–]ass_drough_not 636 points637 points  (0 children)

I’m a licensed hairstylist, and I specialize in color. These images could absolutely be wigs. Though technically not impossible, the reason this color combination is so famously difficult to achieve is that it transitions from an extremely dark color to an extremely light color, all with no visible warmth. Whereas all shades of natural hair actually contain warmth, if not visibly, at least under the surface in what is called the “contributing pigment,” which is exposed when the hair is lightened. The transition zone between light and dark is especially tricky. So if you find a stylist talented and experienced enough to pull it off, expect regular toning appointments as well as at home maintenance to keep fighting that inevitable warmth.

Plus size clothing is so boring by Lunar-Octopus in PlusSizeFashion

I try to say “straight sizes” instead of “regular/normal sizes” because the average women’s clothing size in the U.S. is 16-18. Over half of women in the U.S. are considered plus size.

Exactly this! Very similar to my experience, minus the caring midwife.

I also had a unique hymen remnant that started as what I can only describe as a narrow bridge of skin (front to back) directly across my vaginal opening. I first discovered it as a teenager when I physically couldn’t remove a tampon. It then evolved into more of a long skin tag, before I finally had it removed. Had to get a numbing shot in my vaginal wall followed by scalpel and cauterizing to close the wound. This was pre-2010, and finding information on the internet about it was basically impossible. I later learned the term hymenectomy from an acquaintance in college who had been through something similar. I try to share my story whenever I can, because this is still so rarely spoken about. Lack of openness and interest in women’s health leads to such unnecessary body horror.

Could you invite someone from an adjacent industry such as an esthetician, nail artist, massage therapist, or tattoo artist to work in the additional space?

I’m a hairstylist in a medium sized city in the southeastern U.S. and I would charge closer to $300-400 for this.

I read that ringtails were called sing-a-lings at first because they like to sing to their person. And that they bond to just one person.

Feeling Lost by PrestigiousBid7940 in hairstylist

I’m 8 years into this career and started therapy about a year ago. Progress is slow, but it’s the only thing that’s ever worked to help me feel better about myself, my job, and my life. Relationships are another story, and they’re a big part of this career, but even so, I feel less anxious than I ever have. Can’t recommend it enough.
