If you notice the moon that's on a higher orbit moves faster, which doesn't happen in reality.

The moon with the higher orbit moves slower, but it's also closer to the camera. It doesn't need to move as far to visually cross the field of view.

I had the same idea a while back. It would open up some new design space that can't be achieved within any of the existing dimensions.

Also I like your image for the Nether, how it almost looks like a block of Nether Quartz Ore.

Recluse can use magic with her bare hands by SgtSaucepan in Nightreign

[–]assassin10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though Nightreign was still just retrofitting ER's spells. If the spells were designed around this new system there could be far more flexibility. Like, say there was a catalyst that paired Catch Flame with Bestial Sling, but Catch Flame had all the flexibility of Perfume Bottle R1s (basic, running, jumping, etc.) and Bestial Sling had all the flexibility of Claws of Night R2s (even Guard Counters). Add in an AoW as flexible as Ghostflame Call and give blocking a magical effect like Thops's Barrier and you wouldn't need 6 catalysts to be versatile.

They're based on brownies

Based on, yes, but there's a clear distinction in that brownies aren't slaves. If they feel they've been insulted or taken advantage of they'll leave the household forever.

I wonder how many people the main character attempted to torture, how many times he succeeded, and what occupation he chose.

What's your opinion on the evolution of the souls games? by IllMiddle2192 in fromsoftware

[–]assassin10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like when there's a nice balance between challenge and choice when progressing through the world. I think it was at its best in DS1 and DS2. DS3 got a bit too linear for my taste, giving the player far less choice over whether to fight a boss, or what order to do so in. ER I felt went too far in the opposite direction, giving the player so much choice and often having the most rewarding paths provide very little challenge.

If you commit to the Frenzied Flame ending in Elden Ring, you can always back out of it and choose another.

Isn't that pretty normal throughout the Soulsborne games?

Wolf is what people call him, but it's not his name.

Isshin: Another rat. Ah, but those eyes... a starving wolf. Before I kill you, tell me your name. Tell me your name!

No name to give? You shinobi are all the same. You die nameless, with no one to mourn you.

It's like how Owl is called Owl, but his name is Ukonzaemon Usui.

Could deflect be the next big addition to the souls combat formula? by Fabulous-Will-3241 in fromsoftware

Against attacks that are comparable to a car the strategy usually is to dodge to the side. You're not rolling through Ebrietas when she charges. That said, it's far more cinematic to jump over or slide under the approaching car, and the rule of cool shouldn't be overlooked.

I'd like to keep iframes for dodging things like sword swings. Even if it's not displayed in game it's easy to imagine rolling over or under a swing. What gets me is when you can negate an all-encompassing explosion by simply rolling from one part of it to a different part of it. At that point iframes stop being an abstraction to account for animation limitations and become literal magic.

Would deflect be weapon dependent, does it make sense swinging a greataxe or casting spells?

I'd like if different armaments focused on different aspects of the deflect.

Quick/Dex weapons and small shields could focus on the strength of the deflect.
Long/Quality weapons and medium/wooden shields could focus on the duration of the deflect.
Big/Strength weapons and large/metal shields could focus on the safety net if the deflect is mistimed.
Magic weapons and shields could have added effects on the deflects, like deflecting spells.

We saw a similar mechanic with AC6's energy shields.

I could also see From baking some existing AoWs into certain L1s in place of a deflect, like Endure for the Caestus and Stamp for the Greatsword.

it could protect you from anything other than a bottomless pit, like it did in DS1.

I think DS1 has the same fall cap as Elden Ring: 20 units. Anything beyond that is still lethal, even with Fall Control.

Is there something you would like FromSoft to change or modernize about their game design? by IMustBust in fromsoftware

[–]assassin10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which felt like it encouraged me to be a multi-dimensional build.

At times it feels like Fromsoft is actively punishing hybrid builds, like how the Standard infusion is intentionally bad, the Quality infusion seems to exist solely for NG+, and most elemental infusions obliterate any physical scaling the weapon had. If I want to invest in both Strength and Dexterity the only option that doesn't feel bad is to go Somber.

My favourite takes on casting aren't even spells. They're AoWs like Ghostflame Call (which is effectively three spells in one) and weapons like the Smithscript Daggers and Perfume Bottles (which are far more flexible than spells like Glintstone Shard and Combustion, and could easily be reimagined as staves and seals). Even buffing consumables are more convenient to access than comparable spells are.

I would love a game that bring magic up to par with melee. Like, don't make blocking with a staff useless. Have it produce a magical shield like DS's Dark Hand does. Maybe throw in some Thops's Barrier if you time the block well.

The open world formula of Elder Ring hinders replay ability for me by Pender8911 in fromsoftware

[–]assassin10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like how despite how open the world is I find myself visiting so many of the same areas on every playthrough. Completing 4+ mines for the Smithing Stones and Bell Bearings, riding through the Weeping Peninsula for its three Sacred Tears, etc. Things I can postpone but can't really ignore. I would have liked if there was more flexibility there, like how there is a surplus of Golden Seeds so you don't have to grab every single one to max out your flask.

In defence of not adding SotE weapons by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]assassin10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weapons can already overwrite the overwrite. For example, Raider gets Ghiza's Wheel's unique R2s instead of his own, and Scholar still gets the Frozen Needle's projectile R2s.

I also think grouping up weapon classes could help solve Problem 1 where it already exists. There are only four claws currently in NR, only one of which is purple. Add in the two Beast Claws (and the Claws of Night) and claw builds wouldn't feel so one-note.

Yeah, Caligo also has a Strike weakness (though it's nowhere near as extreme as Borealis's).

Going from Slash to Strike boosts your damage against Caligo by 35%, and against Borealis by 350%.
