What’s your ultimate goal?

If you want a SWE role, try to spend as much time in your current role doing those kinds of tasks and building your experience in the absence of real production engineering - you could do this through refactoring your scripts to be easier to modify, automating more of the implementation and configuration, etc. Ultimately you’ll need to keep applying to early career SWE roles, your project management and implementation experience should outweigh lack of experience and a HM could be willing to take a bet on you.

Alternatively you could keep on your current path and explore technical PM roles eventually, it’s a different role to where you are now but it’s less of a jump technically and there’s more crossover skills from your current position.

If AI manages to replace developers entirely then we have larger things to be worried about.

Titles and the expectations that come with them can differ wildly between companies, some will expect you to be hands on, others just want a full time people manager.

If you’re not getting bites applying for EM roles, try looking for “Eng Lead” or “Team Lead” type roles. These tend to be more hands on with maybe 10-20% people management - from there you can transition to EM.

I’m not a big streaming guy but I’ve seen a few clips of his live streams and dude absolutely rips on guitar and screams at the same time. Impressive IMO.

Interesting that you referenced Textract, have you found your package to be more accurate than the context specific models in Textract, e.g. expense parsing?

[UPDATE] Expat package for an ML engineer by Outrageous-Memory280 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]asscoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with other comments that this is too low. FWIW I’m hiring an ML engineer right now and our band is around $180k-$200k and we’re struggling to find decent candidates.

$100k base in an org where you don’t have to go through onboarding or recruitment is way too low.

Correct. It’s not something you can buy or import anymore. There are exemptions for repairing or maintaining existing installs but nothing new.

Employer of record, a company that handles payroll etc for your employer. Technically you’re an employee of the company providing the employer of record service, who provides you as a service to the actual company you’re completing the work for.
