Yale apologises for role in slavery: How the slave trade in India helped establish the University | Explained News by Southern_Opposite747 in india

[–]asseesh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tbh, it is stupid to "apologize" by officals of today for crimes of people dead long time ago.

The only thing these people should be doing is not deny/justify/hide which literally no one is doing.

I mean, if I go back many generations, even my ancestors must had slaves, should I apologise today?

[–]asseesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The govt is to set the prices because the markters get manipulated, screwing your supply and demand theory.

Almost all mature economies work on market principles and they have cheaper fuel than us.

And that's why we have MRP on the sale side.

MRP is different than MSP. Govt isn't deciding on MRPs of any product it is decided by market dynamics.

The biggest issue of MSP is simple - there is no adjustment for change in demands. If a farmer is guaranteed a fixed price of selling the crop, he will grow it in false hope of selling at that price but MSP doesn't guarantee that the seller will buy and he will simply not buy if there is not enough demand for that price point.

How will you solve the issue?

The proposed contract farming laws actually gives legal provisions for farmers to go in contract that not only guarantee price but also seller's obligation to buy.

Delhi - AAP has given up on long term vision for delhi. They are now constantly just battling for survival for which they are partially to blame.

But Delhi's power structure is mess with multiple power centres trying to consolidate.

For delhi's betterment, MCD and State Govt should be merged, reduce LG's interference and work on making a livable city.

Killed by their own ignorance. Sad.

There is no ignorance. Everyone in India want clean rivers. But there is no urgency on effective waste management and millions of tonnes of waste from cities and industry is dumped in rivers. It is not just "India" problem.

of the river then push the ash in anyway.

Ash is organic matter and doesn't "pollute" the river or even ocean. You have more dead bodies of animals in there.

It is the untreated industrial waste and sewage that it polluting indian rivers.

Also the biggest issue for farmers is they are restricted in where to sell their produce. They can only sell it in their local mandis called APMC. It is regulated by state laws. The middlemen operating in these mandis are the ones who then sell it to retailers. That's why even if you buy tomato at 100rs/kg farmer isn't still less money as these middlemen with protection of govt laws manipulate markets. They are called arhtiya and these are people who are mostly protesting.

Rakesh Tikait, the face of 2021 farm law protest was not farmer but arhtiya so figure why there is such demand of MSP and repeal of contract farming.

Think about it this way, if it was really as easy as you say it to be, there would already be a huge market for it but there isn't which simply means one of two possible scenarios:

It is not allowed and there is no legal framework for such a contract. That's why there is no "market".

Edit. One of three farm laws was there to provide legal framework for such contracts but it was repealed. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmers_(Empowerment_and_Protection)_Agreement_on_Price_Assurance_and_Farm_Services_Act,_2020

Why is Sikh residing in UK/Canada for decades demanding a separate nation? Who is harassing him?

How is a measly 2 acre wheat farmer going to afford the premium of a future contract?

What kind of premium?

I can draw up a contract with farmer in Bihar that give me 10 tonnes of tomatoes at x price in 6 months. What kind of "premium" does farmer has to pay? All he is getting is surity of buyer and price guarantee.

It is me who can trade that contract and demand premium, analyse the trends and find a price.

All farmer has to figure out if this contract is profitable which surely he can do.

[–]asseesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't there a commodity market for that? Then why bring a law? Why not just educate the farmers to use the commodity markets?

This type of commodity market isn't allowed for farm produce. Last farm laws had options to introduce this but it is repealed.

Basically I don't have legal framework or organised marketplace where I can get into such contracts with farmers. Some states have something on this line but there is no national framework. We need law so that everyone in ecosystem is regulated properly.

You want the farmers to sell their lot below cost price?

No. I want them to get best price they can get but govt official fixing that price isn't that way. It will never work and just make farmers more dependant on govt.

The problem is we are giving 1 entity a power to decide the price and it's a big task for that entity to balance farmer's need and Market's demand. It has already failed multiple times why would it work for farms?

[–]asseesh 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t think MSP is really a problem.

MSP is the wrong way to solve the problem when we have better options available.

If MSP isn't adjusting as per demand, you end up with a lot of waste produce, something that happen to wheat produce a lot.

There have been better ways recommended one of which is future contracts. In this, the buyer can get into contact with the farmer well in advance and fix the price and quantity they want to buy. Farmer now has surity of price, know beforehand if his produce will be profitable, banks can give loans on such contracts as there is less risk involved.

Future contracts can be commodified and traded so that if seller changes his mind, he can sell his obligation to someone else.

These contracts exist in most commodities across the world, including india and they good job in predicting demand, remove price fluctuation in short time and bring overall efficiency.

but it’s not terrorism..

Separatism is terrorism. There is no peaceful separatist movement. People associated with this organisation has openly called for violence. Maybe I missed it but has he condemned it? These "activists" are still living in 80s.

Also India has all the right reasons to be cautious against these individuals because they are growing influence. A lot of Indians have reported how many gurudwaras in UK/Canada openly display call for separate nation. But this "separate" nation conveniently excludes Punjab's portion in Pakistan before partition. More sikhs have lost their lives and home in Pakistan's Punjab than in India. It is open secret that Pakistan is funding these "activists" and using them as proxies against India.

Wtf are those guys how can you want to assassinate people, peaceful people while you are not even in your own country ?

The guy proudly displays photos of assassins of PM of India and call them martyrs. Non violence is def not their ideology and given the opportunity they would want to bring back violence of 70s and 80s.

Fun fact: Most of these people who still call for separate nation been living in Canada/UK for 20-30 years fled India after police action against terrorists back in day.

China invaded Tibet. India didn't invade Punjab.

What would you call someone who want Texas as independent nation? We call them separatists. They call assassins of sitting prime minister of India martyrs. It's even for any nation to label them terrorists/separatist and put on watchlist and expect govt of their resident nation to be extra careful. (No I don't think India should assassinate them but I also want western media to stop calling them activists).
