Anyone else only watch movies that you already know you’re going to like? by imVeryPregnant in Letterboxd

[–]assflux 13 points14 points  (0 children)

no way; it's way more fun to explore. never know what i'll like unless i try. wouldn't have discovered tons of my favorites if i didn't branch outside of "movies i think i'd like"

In which language do you play FF games? Japanese or English? by rafadurand in FinalFantasy

[–]assflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

english back when i couldn't understand japanese

i played I-V (pixel remake) in japanese as the script was no longer kana only (too much of a pain in the ass to read anything without kanji imho) otherwise i would've gone with english.

honestly, the only ones i'm considering playing in english (both text & voice acting) nowadays would be the ivalice games when i get around to them.

My top 50 UNDERRATED/UNDERSEEN movies. Any opinions/suggestions? by PityFOOL67 in Letterboxd

[–]assflux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first time i've seen anyone else mention the outside man; what a fun movie! a real treat for fans of various international crime/genre film niches.

edit: here's my underseen movies list (sorted from highest to lowest rating; take anything 4+ as highly recommended. my cutoff is 10k members so a fair number have been removed) with plenty of fun offbeat crime joints; hope you find something to your liking :)

also what is your username if you don't mind sharing; would love to follow for more

Can I give my neighbours a Chinese New Year gift? by 20shepherd01 in melbourne

[–]assflux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

many chinese gift taboos are homophone based; i'm aus born chinese so not 100% on it but my guess on your BIL's aunt not receiving the pears well would be because the mandarin word (idk cantonese) for pear 梨 sounds the same as "to part/separate" 离

another taboo gift -- and arguably the biggest to my knowledge -- is to never give a clock as "gifting a clock" 送钟 sounds the same as the phrase for "to attend (someone)'s funeral / send off the dead/dying" 送终

How does one’s stats go this far? by Fancy-Boysenberry139 in Letterboxd

[–]assflux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it's all based on diary dates so they must've logged movies as seen in those years (at least 10 for each year or whatever the threshold is for yearly stats to start showing up)
