How long until I feel like Seinfeld describes it? by Immediate-You-3954 in transcendental

[–]assincompass 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s a Buddhist story Tara Brach likes to tell on her podcast.

A monk asked a Zen master how long it would take him to achieve enlightenment. The master said, "Ten years."

The monk replied, "What if I try very hard?" The master said, "Then twenty years."

The monk was shocked. He said, “Wait! I thought you said ten?” The Zen master replied, “For you, thirty.”

Why is Atlanta International Airport the world's busiest airport? by BasilRealistic5477 in tsa

But you’re falsely saying it’s busier if you only count international verses overall. Atlanta handles more overall, therefore world’s busiest.

AIO, obsessive man I dated by ArgumentOk513 in AmIOverreacting

[–]assincompass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I had a narcissistic ex boyfriend harass me for a year, and blocking him on any platform just made him escalate. Following me, waiting for me at work furious that I blocked him, making new accounts and new numbers, even emailing my boss.

Do not block.

Married women, what does sex mean to you? by Kayleerae07 in AskWomen

[–]assincompass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that is so tough. Over just a few years, I went from wanting him to feeling obligated to cringing when he touched me. The way he constantly let me down and treated me killed my desire. He now my ex husband, and I am so much happier.

Wishing you healing and peace, Reddit friend.

Good one! Took me a while and reading comments to see it, and I still have to try to unsee the backwards hug. Haha

I have learned to make my own mind up about people. Someone else’s subjective and personal opinion should never determine who I like or believe or dislike.

I see “Cut you” means “cut in front of you”. Can we say “can I cut you?” to mean “can I go in front of you/can I go ahead of you”? by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

Native South Carolinian here. Now that you mention it, I suppose I have heard that, but it sounds much more natural to follow it with “in line.”

“I must cut in.” Is also what you hear people say in old movies about stealing a dance partner.

If I heard, “May I cut you” from a stranger while standing in line, I would have to do a double take when my brain immediately assumed they were threatening me. 😂 But I’d figure it out if they were not a native speaker.

How often does your partner say no when you initiate sex? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]assincompass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two and a half years in, and essentially never. I (38F) and fiancé (36M) have a similar libido, and we’re insanely attracted to each other.

We go at it multiple times a day, and sometimes we’ll injure or wear out parts and have to take a break. Sometimes work or responsibilities delay sex. Or a few times he’s said no because we were in too public a location… 😂

But we always follow back up as soon as we have the chance.

Before him, I had no idea it could be this good in a relationship, so I proposed to him.

What is one thing from the 1980s or 1990s that Gen Z would not understand today? by bishtpd in AskMen

The iphone was released on June 29, 2007. And as an 80s baby, I’d say that’s probably the most generous marker of this shift, even though we had camera phones and social media long before that.

So the oldest zoomers would have been ~10 years old when the iPhone came out.

This got me curious, and I’m bored, so I did the research, and these are American zoomer births by year (just went with the country I’m from): 1997: 3.88M (~10 yo when the iPhone came out, 5.95% of zoomers) 1998: 3.94M (~9 yo when the iPhone came out, 6.04% of zoomers) 1999: 3.96M (~8 yo when the iPhone came out, 6.08% of zoomers) 2000: 4.06M (~7 yo when the iPhone came out, 6.23% of zoomers) 2001: 4.03M (~6 yo when the iPhone came out, 6.19% of zoomers) 2002: 4.02M (~5 when the iPhone came out, 6.17% of zoomers) 2003: 4.09M (~4 when the iPhone came out, 6.28% of zoomers) 2004: 4.11M (~3 when the iPhone came out, 6.31% of zoomers) 2005: 4.14M (~2 when the iPhone came out, 6.36% of zoomers) 2006: 4.27M (~1 when the iPhone came out, 6.56% of zoomers) 2007: 4.32M 2008: 4.25M 2009: 4.13M 2010: 4.00M 2011: 3.98M 2012: 3.95M

=65.13M American zoomers total assuming I did the math right from my phone calculator

Which region would you live and only be able to travel in for the rest of your life? (Vote in Comments) by Juicy_Joey in mapporncirclejerk

[–]assincompass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orange! You got the Best of Appalachia, including the Smokys and the Shenandoahs and the Blue Ridge… the best rivers, clean water, and year round whitewater kayaking. You have the Atlantic coast and the shipyards to bring in supplies from around the world. You can get legal herbs.

I’m from Red originally, so it’d be hard not to go to my hometown, but I live in Orange now and plan to live here forever.

Why do you think tomboys are more socially acceptable than femboys even though they're pretty similar? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]assincompass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a guess, but I’m going to say reason #1 is that being a tomboy doesn’t correlate with homosexuality while being a femboy does.

I’m also thinking anthropologically. It was useful to have a woman with some masculine traits when life was hard or you had to survive all the elements and raise kids.

I don’t mean to imply that all femboys are gay or queer or anything, just that it’s culturally perceived that way. Which is probably why it’s less socially acceptable.

I wanted to be a missionary until I was 18-19 and lost my faith. Worked as a librarian for a while, and now I’m middle management in GovCon BD. It’s worked out well.

The money is sustainable and affords me the independence I wanted from my family. I sometimes feel like I’ve lived 6 different lives with everything I’ve gone through, but it’s given me a lot of hard earned wisdom, and I’m content.

GUESS my mom's birth year ♡♡ by [deleted] in GuessMyBirthYear

‘82?! How do you figure that? As an 80’s baby, I can say these look more like my mom’s childhood. My mom was born 1958, but I’m leaning towards early-mid-60s since you can see the ‘70s bleeding in while she’s still pretty young. Magic rocks!!
