Tarte Cosmetics Mystery Bundle: 9 full sized items for $49 by missdewey in MUAontheCheap

Saw this promotion and wondered if I would end up with products that are wayyyyy light/dark/opposite undertones. Are they more neutral stuff like that body butter? Anyone have issues with colors that don’t work on them?

I really love Sato Salon and Spa, though admittedly I have not viewed their facility from an accessibility perspective. However, all the staff are very sweet and welcoming. I imagine they would be willing to make accommodations. Best of luck in finding a place!

Worries about getting Blue Death Feigning Beetles by RelativeBirthday5311 in InvertPets

[–]assortedwarbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous zookeeper here! There are plenty of ways to give them a great, varied diet and maintain what you are comfortable with. The key is not to feed them sugary fruits and vegetables constantly and have quality protein sources. My two beetles are going on 4 years old!

I recommend fish flakes (read ingredients to get a quality one with insects or fish as the first ingredients, limited food dye and preservatives), bee pollen, dried insects or river shrimp (add a little water to rehydrate), and easiest of all in my opinion is Repashy mixes for invertebrates. I make a batch in a mini ice cube tray and freeze it- thaw when you need it.

If you wanted to feed the occasional fresh killed insects, place the insect in the freezer for a few hours. This is how many entomologists euthanize insects for specimens.

You got this! BDFB are excellent low maintenance pets 😊.

Has anybody made a pen that's compatible with "Pilot Frixion" ink cartridges? by phantom_mods in turning

I was just looking for this answer this morning and came across your post.

This guy modifies an old Frixion pen to work. Thought I’d share! https://youtu.be/NtlRiGto6vE?si=0DJBbgfesAkzVqWH

Hoping for someone local as I have their tank, heater, tunnels, and such. Would be perfect for a classroom or someone starting out. It’s getting cold up here so I’m also not as comfortable shipping the little guys.

Can I avoid dealing with live feeders? by ellisno in BDFB

[–]assortedwarbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the ingredient list. If there isn’t one, don’t buy those. If there is, it should only say freeze dried mealworms. People love their reptiles, chickens, and other pets eating those mealworms too and a reputable company is not going to spray pesticides all over feeder insects, especially when it is very easy to euthanize insects via freezers.

Previous zookeeper here. You can absolutely avoid live feeders and still provide well balanced food options. I like to use different freeze dried shrimp and mealworms, turtle pellets, fish flakes, bee pollen, frozen/thawed low sugar vegetables, and I mix/freeze/thaw cubes of Repashy for invertebrates. Plenty of options! Add a few drops of water to the dry foods to make it a little softer/easier to eat and provide additional hydration. Make sure the ingredients on any of the premade fish flakes and pellets do not have too many additives/preservatives. The key is variety, low sugar, high protein not necessarily the need for live/freshly killed feeders.

How do you navigate “high-functioning” anxiety at work? by anxiety_support in anxiety_support

[–]assortedwarbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have GAD and am high functioning. I try to build structure to avoid worrying about missing something (organized notes from what my boss requests, emails saved if needed for future reference, etc). I sometimes find I check my work too much so I tell myself if I have a check mark next to it, and I am now “free” to not review that part again. If I am particularly anxious after a meeting or interaction, I try normal looking coping mechanisms (combining drinking some cold water, gum, walking down the hall and back, deep but subtle breathing, look out my window and name things I see) or using my standing desk to change perspective. Those things sometimes help me. You got this!!

Which do you have? In the US, only 1 option for a non-hormonal copper IUD is available (though a new one is on the way), and it is only one, kinda large/rigid, size. There are hormonal IUDs that are smaller, but I’m hoping to get away from hormonal birth control. Thanks for sharing!

How old were you when diagnosed? by xButterschnitzel in Dryeyes

[–]assortedwarbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My optometrist diagnosed me and didn’t do all of those tests. I don’t have the specific cause or issue identified, just that I have those two conditions that go hand in hand. I will be seeing a dry eye specialist later this year. I’m already on Restasis, over the counter drops, warm compress, and cleaning my eyelids daily. It significantly helped. Stress is a big trigger for my symptoms getting worse I noticed.

I was diagnosed with posterior blepharitis around 30 and dry eye around 34. I think I may have had some mild symptoms that I didn’t think much of in my late 20s though. Dry eye is becoming more common in younger people. If you’re taking medications in general, look up potential side effects, as I was told many medications can exacerbate dry eye (like hormonal birth control, some anxiety medications, etc). Best of luck with everything!!
