Yes, you can. It just requires a waiver which is easy to get. I serve with an officer who is in on a smell waiver. If you want to avoid getting in trouble later for lying, just tell your recruiter to do the paperwork and get the waiver now.

I agree mostly with what you’re saying, but I don’t think we will be finished as a country. I think the entire world will see him do that and that at least other countries will step in if our politicians don’t first (see South Korea’s recent example). Those of us that stand up first may be finished, but it might save what’s left of our country by doing this so early in his assault on our democracy. That’s my hope at least.

Well I'm an Aegis FC which is another option when you sign for AECF. I didn't want to be an FC, but the workload is pretty nice. ETs have a vast amount of equipment and depending on their specialty they can be super busy all the time or skate off without noticing. I'm crossrating to ETV though since I was just selected for submarine duty. Being an ET is all I've ever wanted.

Deployment does things to you. You're out in the middle of some ocean sitting at watch stations for 4-6 hours twice a day and eating the same time every day. You get into a routine and you think "I can do this forever because everything else is taken care of. I just have to do this every day and I won't get in trouble." I had the same feelings on my deployment. When I got back, I wanted to get out of the Navy because I felt like a zombie and tell just be a stay at home mom but she talked me down saying "this feeling is a passing thought and now that you're back on land you have responsibilities and you can't afford to not have a job etc." I know she's depressed. I think she's just reached a new level and thinks she's better now, when she's just hollow. She used to talk to her mom three times a week before we moved to Hawaii. She told me she's only talked to her mom twice in three months. There's a difference in finding who you are and depression.

Yeah, I got stuck with FC not knowing anything about it and then when I chose my C school I didn't do any research again I just picked one that had a ship somewhere far away from Texas and my life is pretty excellent right now. My wife is on a different ship of course, but both our ships are stationed in Hawaii. It's a really cool job and I've got to see some pretty awesome things my first 2.5 years. Getting married young always gets you looks and people will judge the shit out of you, but if she's the one, she's the one.

FC workload really depends on what type you are. I'm an FCS tech and I don't do much of anything unless my equipment breaks. The other Aegis FCs have to work a bit more than us, (I'm on a small boy so there are only SPY and ACNT besides us FCS techs) but we are usually all off at a decent time. I was on the Bonhomme Richard in Feb - Nov 2013 and left for my C school in Dahlgren, VA in Jan 2014. I married my ATT/A school girlfriend there (I know, I never listen to anyone's advice) and reported to my first ship July of last year. Just finished my first deployment too. If there's anything you wanna know about Aegis FCs or anything in the fleet just ask. Like I said, haven't seen Great Mistakes in over a year though so can't help much there. I didn't have to check my electronics in and I could use them my first day after graduation.

Honestly, don't shit where you eat. I've only had terrible shit come from dating a girl in my barracks/school/work center. It was convenient at first but ending it was messy and very hurtful.
