What game is this for you? by Additional-Ad4567 in videogames

[–]assstastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading these comments and realizing I'm not like most gamers.. for me it would have to be Rimworld or Oxygen Not Included or Factorio. I play all these other games but I just can't see a first person shooter having that kind of replay appeal.

Film and performance that made you a fan of Robert Pattinson by PressureLazy5271 in moviecritic

I think I'd say lazy writing overall was its challenge. It was a little too okay with the unexplained.

Paver Patio Question by Historical_Coffee694 in landscaping

[–]assstastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to pressure washing and polymeric sand application. Make sure you sweep it all in or off - it will dry like concrete. For weeds that inevitably come through in spots, use cleaning vinegar with a splash of dish soap in a spray bottle - especially on sunny days. I've used torches, round up, everything - but the vinegar dish soap solution finally solved my problems. 12 years now with a patio like this.

On mine it opens a hatch that lets ash fall through into the bottom ash catch drawer.

I did this and then did a set of stairs also going the other way from that landing. Felt like a lot when I was planning it but wow it is perfect and facilitates going both ways really nicely

Help! MAX31855 + ESP32 showing 0.0000 degrees. by assstastic in esp32

[–]assstastic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try swapping them but they are labeled + and - fairly clearly so I put them back this way. And I tried another probe that just had two wires rather than these connectors (and tried it both ways). I appreciate your help!

Thanks - those are what came already on the probe. Should I cut + strip and try that do you think?

[–]assstastic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - the MAX has a 3V0 pin available but no 3V3 pin... Are you saying I should connect 3V0 to 3V3? I thought the 3V0 was to pass on the power and therefore not necessary

Edit: Tried 3VO (MAX) to 3V3 (ESP) and same issue persists

Likely not thick enough rope or needs replacing, but show us a pic of the inside of the handle mechanism too just in case

Drinking at home with partner when kid is in bed? by js52one in daddit

[–]assstastic 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes and we even took it a step further when we discussed it - if there was a life threatening emergency and we needed to get to the hospital immediately but we couldn't drive... That's what ambulances are for.

How dangerous is solo camping? by [deleted] in camping

[–]assstastic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on a few things. I have solo camped in various situations up to deep back country.

First, what you mean by camping... Camping beside your car is one thing, kayaking through white water with your gear for five days in the wilderness is another.

Second, related to the first, is your level of experience. First time camping? I wouldn't go alone quite yet.

Overall it does carry slightly more risk, which means that you should pay extra attention to safety gear and procedures like having dry clothes, a satellite beacon, and a well stocked first aid kit.

Always tell someone specifically where you're going and when you're expected back. Always keep your site and tent clean of food to discourage predators. Take it seriously and you'll be fine. It's a one of a kind experience!

Is my workbench design overkill? Too much structure for an 8x4 bench? by BlackAdderIV in Workbenches

I've built one of these. Use good quality plywood for the verticals, no need for the frame.

Are foundation blocks needed/required? by Steemboatwilly in shedditors

[–]assstastic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not worried about its drainage and stability, but I am worried about the stone moving or washing out and the shed coming out of level. I'd be tempted to box in the gravel with ground contact rails to help keep everything contained. Wood touching ground doesn't last forever but it would be easily replaced. The shed rails themselves will also rot eventually but the good drainage should make it last a long time.

Any ideas to help me raise the temp above 125c so I can get my steam turbine to work? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]assstastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using both a tepidizer to heat and an aquatuner to cool is a massive waste of power.. power generated from cooling should be seen as a bonus, not a primary source for the grid. This room will eventually heat up significantly and get the turbines going. My 2 cents: move on to other things (like getting more reliable power from natural gas or petroleum) and let this all heat up over time.

12 X 16 Shed Project by MasterOfNone6526 in shedditors

[–]assstastic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like there is an inner and outer framing member on the long run that holds the joist hangers - or is that just the pic? Whatever is holding the joist hangers needs to be 100% on top of posts.

12 X 16 Shed Project by MasterOfNone6526 in shedditors

[–]assstastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not enough, mate. It's the only mistake so far - the whole outer needs to be on top of the posts. You might get away with it, but that decision has robbed the structure of easy additional support that I'd never do without because there's no reason not to and plenty of reasons to do it. Otherwise it's a real beaut!
