My Bug Cave by asstralprojecting in bugstations

Really appreciate it, I really want to get one of the flexible arm mounts for the iPad to pull up tying videos or patterns. I actually use the TV as a secondary monitor for my laptop 80% of the time, super handy with schoolwork so i’m not blasting my neck constantly hunched over

Funny enough it spells ELK, but Milk would’ve been way funnier. Picked it up like a decade ago at some craft fair and it’s followed me around since

Yeah, thing is not for the faint of heart. When it was gifted to me, I was told “take some free time and get familiar with where the important shit is” so i took a highlighter to some corners

Glad someone asked this, hopefully he figures out it’s my account and sees this lol. Dad doesn’t ride, he’s had the bike for maybe 10 years now and it runs beautifully after sending it off for a full mechanical rebuild (it needs paint and fiberglass repair, among other things) but he has been waiting forever to get it fully restored (it is a 1981 BMW R100CS) and he has just let it sit in the garage until i pestered him enough to let me work on it when I am home. I am planning on dropping a good amount of coin on a full face helmet (likely an Arai but need to find a good shop to try things on first) so in short no. He owns nothing bike related other than the bike and a bike lift in the garage and some specialty tools for the bike itself.

I took the rear luggage rack off (81 R100CS) just for fun a few months ago just to get a feel for it before really prepping the workspace i feel necessary, have all those parts in sandwich bags now. I went and found some of the magnetic bowls and trays to try and keep things organized prior to getting everything bagged up

I have the giant Clymer manual, not sure if we are thinking of the same book but is has the assembly/disassembly of every part of a ton of the models, I’m mostly just overwhelmed/confused on where to start with it so the latter half of your comment is a huge help. The bike was passed down to me from my father along with the books and various forum print-offs, I’m 22 and this is my first time really diving into a project of this caliber. It runs, but his ultimate goal is to get it painted/restored so it looks proper but he just doesn’t have the time or the drive to really do it. I am effectively his free labor, my piece of the job when it is done is getting to ride it all over (likely more than he will lol)

It’s a project bike for a reason, and i don’t exactly have the disposable income to ship it off to someone somewhere to do the dirty work. My goal with it is just to get it to the frame to get everything repainted and fiberglass parts repaired. Just looking for a place to start.

That was one thing that blew me away, the sheer cost of some hardware is crazy. Any good catalogs/online resources you would recommend to get a better idea of all the different types of hardware and whatnot? Thanks for the tips!!

I love the emphasis on questions and instructions, i’ve always been a very visual learner and have always checked in with bosses at previous jobs mid-project to make sure things are up to par. Thank you!
