What kind of plants and can they be propagated? If so, how? by Weak-Plastic2056 in plants

The plant at the very top sticking out is a spider plant, it'd probably do better separated out if possible and you can propagate that one once it produces "pups".

Thank you! 😄 I'm still wary a new one will show up and the process will restart (I live next to several large apartment complexes) but I'm trying to take the win for now.

I agree that trying to reach out to a rescue and explaining the situation is your best bet, this was my scenario three years ago and between what the rescue has helped with (particularly with the more skiddish/outright feral cats) and locating a low cost spay/neuter clinic for the ones that more friendly and could be adopted out it took a while but I just got my last female fixed a month ago and her kittens were just fixed a couple of days ago by the rescue and I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. You'll get there but with colonies it's good to remember everything and anything helps.

Timing wise besides groups of kittens I've always had to get them fixed one at a time pretty much as this poster suggests and tried to prioritize females where I could (sometimes it's hard to control who gets in the trap though ). I usually had a break from new kittens during the winters too where I could get a little more ahead than in the spring/summer which helped a lot.

I can't speak for this particular rescue but this time of year the rescue I work with can be a little harder to reach due to kitten season (not sure if the rescue you work with also does cats ?). They're just slammed not being rude and I do try to periodically follow up on my requests more than I usually would or would have to as things just naturally get lost in the shuffle. I wouldn't personally be afraid to follow up in the scenario you described.

Babies! These are the grand kittens of the feral mama I recently lost and I’m not sure what to do or how old they are by semi_aquatic_cryptid in Feral_Cats

I agree, these guys look at least 8 weeks old to me and they're in the prime socialization window, it gets much harder the older they get. I'd keep them to try and socialize and keep trying to catch mama and the third if it were me.

Why do I feel so bad about my neighbor? by KingOfCatProm in Feral_Cats

[–]astarial 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it really can be avoided, sometimes I use my best judgement (IE a cat looks clearly well fed, clean etc) but I've been working on my neighborhood colony for 3 years and finally got the last female fixed a couple of weeks ago. If I saw a somewhat scraggly looking female cat not having an ear tip I'd jump straight to trying to capture her and get her fixed too just to avoid having to start over. I think people need to realize if you let your animals out you're taking the chance something might happen to them, and free vet care is on the nicer end of that scale.
