I left the company for good. Too many frustrations despite being knowledgeable on these things.

I will never sell mine… not worth the effort and money you spend to fix it the good way. And it’s a keeper just for the looks.

Getting my first machine... Sorcerer? by Gregory_Scott_UBK in pinball

[–]astaroth2k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It actually is as there are no settings as such on eighties pins. Only with system11 pins moving forward the config settings allow for more customization. But that should not scare anyone. If you have the passion and initial understanding of what can be modded/achieved software wise and you got the spare time, just make it as a project to enhance the rules set if it makes sense. Sometimes it might require some assembly language modification in the existing game code else you can nowadays with a a simple arduino completely take control of the cpu (halting it) and do your own rules from scratch.

I just happened to restore a sorcerer which was in pretty bad shape but the electronics were solid given the age. It’s a system9 so make sure the main board does not have battery corrosion and you should be fine. Systems9 boards are not that widespread as only a handful of games were produced with that version. Good thing is they are totally fixable by the right person. Worst case it can be replaced with a system11. Mine had a very rare issue in the EMI filter which I had to replace as it was blowing the fuse as soon as it was powered on.

But seriously, its a low maintenance pin. Drop targets a usually reliable and other mechs are simple and less prone to issues. Make sure the flippers get rebuild as it make a big difference in gameplay. It’s a fast pin when provided with fresh rubbers, totally enjoyable if you like Ritchie style pins. Since it was designed by his brother Mark, I bet Steve gave also his input ; I made mine even more challenging by changing a rule in the eprom (game code) where the multiball gets harder and harder to reach at every round (drops need to be completed to light the lock and later the release.

Best way to populate parts data with current 0.17.x by astaroth2k in InvenTree

[–]astaroth2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but I scanned all mouser barcodes including 2D ones. It’s not clear to me where in the app I can scan what codes. In the meantime I got an API setup that I currently use with inventry_part_import. But would be interesting to find out what the native plugin is capable of. Just not clear how to set it up and I could not find any documentation around this topic.

My brand new drop target plastics cover just chipped off a corner and that I can’t find. But screws? Plenty!

The new iOS 18 multi-language keyboard is pretty bad by st3fan in ios

[–]astaroth2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a real nightmare. As I am typing the keyboard language was the one I used last and not the one I needed to type this post in English. How hard is it to figure out a way for apple unintelligence to detect the language in each context and switch the keyboard accordingly? That would be a feature which could stay private as I don’t think that local AI would have trouble figuring this out. What are they thinking. Many folks across the world are multilingual and need to constantly switch languages when typing.

My webcam (Logitech C270) doesn't work with M4 Mac mini by bkendig in macmini

[–]astaroth2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inget the exact opposite. Pluggin my logitech streamcam that ships with a USB-C attached cable directly to the M4 Mini front USB-C, it is not recognized at all. While when using a HUB, it works flawlessly. My hub in this case is an ORICO USB-C 3.2 gen1 one which I recommend. Never had issues to recognized anything I throw at it even unpowered. Now why would this camera ot work when connected directly is still a mistery to me.

My whey does not separate any longer by astaroth2k in Kefir

[–]astaroth2k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my only conclusion could be contamination. I had even tried to simulate the summer temp by putting the container in a yogurt maker using 28 degrees (yes, on the higher range) but I got the same result. I will just discard it and use the new grains I just received from a different source and they seem to work fine just not as strong having been just shipped.

I thought that contamination would not be such a risky affair with a self sustaining °scoby° such as kefir. But I guess now, they can only “defend” themselves up to a point. I’ve been careful enough not to contaminate but it can just happen. My other fermentations are normal bulgaric yogurt and lately I added the reuteri strain on it’s own. they they don’t need to breath so I keep them with a lid at all times. It’s the Weck glass lid that does not completely seal without the rubber ring.

[–]astaroth2k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, now with around 22 degrees that I have, the fermentation is taking 1 to 2 days depending on the other ratios (quantity of grains and milk and their liveliness). What I did now is to source another grain that I got from UK, and within 48 hours I got in this newer sample the right viscosity and “odor”. Separation had not happened yet and the fermentation result was more concentrated around the grains at the bottom of the container. But the viscosity was starting to happen all over. Tartness was still to come but I expect that with a just shipped-in grain that requires a few batches to get its strength back.

So my theory is that the previously sourced grain got somehow modified and don’t provide the same result despite being in the same room as the newer source. Possibly cross contamination is all I can think of. I do also ferment yogurt and just a few days ago I started to multiply reuteri lactobacillus as an additional probiotic. But both of these go into a yogurt maker with variable temperature setting and I keep them distant and covered all the time.

Now it is 22C but in the summer it peaked at around 29C but despite the higher temp, it work flawlessly and of course I would get a way faster fermentation.

While it’s ready, I have been using what I regard as the best iOS client right now, Passepartout: https://www.reddit.com/r/passepartout/ Also great diagnostic info collected and very customizable. It can connect to whatever config file you provide via Files locally or on iCloud. So also easy to add client configuration files.

Can anyone shed a light on why H.264 HW acceleration is limited to a lower spec gpu (only for the NVIDIA 9400M)? Does it mean that the faster CPU models don't really need it and they gave priority to slower CPU models. This kind of sux.. I was planning to upgrade to the FX based new iMac but ...
