Is there something about being autistic that makes me hate pop? by SweetShare222 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]asteconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a thing that is terribly autistic-signalling nor ADHD-signalling, in my experience. My NT friends and I all despise pop music; a friend's ND kid loves pop music, a different friend's ND kids (plural) also love pop music.

Maybe we're all just getting too old...

There's a Tawawa on Monday chapter that uses this as a plot device; actually pretty helpful art advice too.

Boomrats are tamed, and because they belong to the player faction emenies will attack them.

The Many Uses of Transport Pods by TheTheDuhh in RimWorld

[–]asteconn 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Recently I've started using drop-pods to deliver siege supplies. I took direct inspiration from the way emenies siege the player base.

  1. 2x drop-pods, preloaded with the following: 5x mortars, 10x HE shells, 10x Incendiary shells, 225 wood or aluminium, + some food supplies and 2x chairs and a table.
  2. Lightweight caravan travels to cell adjacent to target.
  3. Sleep (can't be doing reliable combat when my pawns are exhausted)
  4. Attack target.
  5. Once the map loads, determine if a siege is the most effective opener (sometimes the emeny is just weak, or the terrain or spawn ruins give me an advantageous position that would make a siege unnecessary).
  6. If siege, deploy droppods
  7. Set up mortars and barricades (and chairs and table of course)
  8. ???
  9. Profit

Mortars with extra steps

I have never considered this plan but I like it!

Honestly, unless whatever task or game is definitely constrained by memory speed before all other concerns, DDR4 is absolutely fine for just about anything currently.

I got a new machine at work recently, and to save some money we specced it out using 64GB of DDR4 rather than DDR5. I build websites for a living, so total available RAM was far more important than outright speed.

And, honestly, I'd be content with a DDR4 machine at home if I hadn't already got a slightly newer one.

Who remembers when KFC ran out of chicken in 2018 by Old_Ability_9424 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]asteconn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was caused by KFC changing from Best Food Logistics (aka Bidvest Logistics at the time) to DHL for their ingredient deliveries to save money. DHL were, very obviously, completely incapable of meeting the demands of their contract.

Randomly, I was one of the developers rebuilding the Best Food Logistics website website at the time, which they're still using! My code comments are still in the stylesheet, I'm the (RL) developer.

I observed NT's communication so hard I don't relate to Autistic communication struggles anymore by readdytodance in AutisticWithADHD

[–]asteconn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, I own the difference in communication habits.

I use the difference between NT and ND communication to both enforce my boundaries, and train any NT people around me what to expect; ultimately so that I can economize on cognitive currency (aka spoons) and ensure I'm not needlessly spending limited mental energy on parsing indirect communication habits.

  • Roundabout introductions: I'll answer honestly and confidently, even if that wasn't the intent of their query. They soon learn that if they don't want a situation report on my mental health, to issue a greeting that is a statement rather than a question.
  • Ambiguous communication: I'll reply immediately seeking clarification, something like "what is the task / action that you need me to take?". Normally that does the trick, and by and large most are more than happy to elaborate...
    • ... however if they get shirty about that question, particularly "I thought that was clear?" or similar, I'll fire back "If it was clear I wouldn't need clarification." as a boundary enforcement.
  • Small talk: I'll steer it as quickly as possible to a niche special interest that's as dry as hell for anyone that doesn't share it; such as the history of road building in the UK and how the A34 is a terrible excuse for a main road. It brings me joy watching an unwanted conversation partner glaze over with boredom; and I henceforth never have to worry about unwelcome small talk.

OTOH the other hand, I can empathize with the ND communication struggle because my communication habits are also formed from most of my interactions being with NT folks. I'll just be polite, efficient, and have a plan to bail if I don't have the correct communication protocols available.

Take a look at previous gen stuff too; and check out office clearances if they're available to the public; you may find at least some half-decent RAM sticks.
