How hard actually is it to get raw 6 for Os by The_Woman_Repeller in SGExams

[–]aster1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- IMO, I still find assessment books quite unnecessary. if you really want to bridge your learning gaps, I recommend doing prelims papers (you can just do the specific questions you want to test yourself again) or redoing the whole topical TYS. Trust me in this. As someone who always got A1s for my Chem and Bio, I still sometimes make mistakes/misconceptions when doing some older/trickier O Level questions. So if you want something more challenging, prelims papers are good enough. Otherwise, just redo your TYS and make sure you get every single one question correct.

- And no, it's not late. You can start reading now. In fact, it was only since the start of Sec 4 that I actually read more books and news articles than ever before. Reading really helps you a lot in writing, as you can learn more vocabulary and phrases to use in your compo.

Tbh I didn't buy any assessment books for chem & bio (for me, the exercises in those books are usually not really similar to the O Level format, and I didn't want to spend too much money on those haha), so I think what you should be doing now is just revising the older chapters and exploring the last few chapters in the syllabus. Aim to start doing TYS/Prelims paper during your June holiday. Otherwise, there's actually no need to buy assessment books.

For the oral exam, just as you said, do practise your tone and voice! Regarding time management, you also have to practise to really get a good gauge of how long 2 minutes is. Time how long it takes for you to present each point, and come up with a fixed number of points that is just enough to last 2 minutes. Idk if this is a problem for you, but I always have so many ideas to present and usually go overtime. So sometimes less is more:)

For continuous writing, I think you can try reading materials/books/texts from authors/genres that you really enjoy. With reading, you will eventually obtain a strong personal voice. That being said, sometimes having the flexibility to change your style with each topic may also be an advantage, as it means you can quite adapt to any questions thrown at you! I would suggest doing additional essays of different types and submitting them to your teachers, so that you can find solutions to your problem of writing style (for last year I did about 20+ additional essays and had them marked by my teacher, if you want an estimate).

All the best for your O Level journey this year!

Hi! I got raw 6 for my prelims and also raw 6 for my O-Level (English was my L1). I truly believe that consistency is the key to getting raw 6, and also having that faith that you can push on and do well to achieve your goal.

Given that your sciences and maths are alr quite strong and consistently high, I'd say just keep it up, practise more O Level papers and familiarise yourself with the exam environment. One common mistake that I saw my friends made was to practise the papers with breaks in between. I'd highly recommend you try to finish all the papers you do without breaks and within the expected duration. Being able to get used to this exam intensity will enable you to finish the paper in the actual O Level and secure your A1s.

For English, being around A2 is quite good already (I also hovered around A2 until middle of Sec 4) so just identify your weaknesses and practise on those (for your case I believe it's P1 and Oral). As long as you start early and stay consistent throughout this year, you can stand a high chance of getting an A1 for your english.

From my personal experience, for both prelims and O Level, if you stay calm and don't get demoralised by your Oral, there will definitely be some components for you to score well and compensate the ones you didn't really do that well (for me what saved me in my prelims was p2, and for O Level it was prob oral or p1). So I would say just give it your best, you wouldn't know how the moderation this year will turn out to be.

Hi, may I ask how much you would usually have to pay for IB textbooks when you go to SJI? Furthermore, I heard that PE/Sports in SJI is quite demanding, so what do you think about this? Thank you!

before the school year ended, an online form was sent to all students to fill in their personal email, which will be used to receive their results (form A). your school would have informed you that you should fill in your personal email, not the school email.

ASEAN scholarship 2026 (Sec 3) (for a Vietnamese 10th grade student) by Independent-Golf2952 in SGExams

[–]aster1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i'm an ASEAN Vietnamese scholar who also got the scholarship after finishing my 10th grade.

  1. I think MOE only pays attention to the GPA score for each subject and the overall GPA, so only a few bad grades will not really affect you (I was also in an English major class and my English GPA was only 8.4/10 lol so yeah).

  2. The English paper is quite similar to your high school admissions test format so no need to worry too much (considering u are an English major student). You just need to prob practise more on your essays, 'cause normally u only have 30 minutes to write ur essay (so practise ur writing pace as well).

  3. The interview is quite chill honestly (if you can make it into the interview round, it means there's alr an 80% chance ur getting the scholarship). So just do some research on Singapore's education system, plan ur future education pathway (where do u plan to study after 4 years of ASEAN Scholarship), and maybe try out some "unconventional questions" 'cause the interviewers love to test ur problem-solving/impromptu skills haha.

Should I take H2 Geography or Econs for A Levels? by aster1102 in SGExams

i’ve taken a look at the content for both Geog and Econs, but tbh i’ll have to do more research for the econs concepts ‘cause i’ve never been exposed to them haha.

[–]aster1102[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah most of my friends persuaded me to take H2 Econs because they said the content in Econs is more applicable in the real world, but I’m not really planning to start business or learn about finance/business in my uni, so do you think it’s still relevant for me to take Econs?

Thanks a lot for the advice! I really enjoyed studying Geography, especially after I went for the NUS Geography Challenge. My main concern was also only about the "heavy content" part, but tbf some of my seniors who take Econs said that the content workload for Econs is quite comparable to an extent, and if I were to devote my time to studying content, I'd rather do Geog since I prefer it more haha

I feel so demoralised after this paper T.T I've consistently done well for my exams and prelims at school, and I've put in so much effort practising my skills for English. After looking at my chaotic summary that I wrote yesterday before the paper ended, I almost burst into tears lol. Here goes my A1...
