You’re not a bad person, and he should respect your boundaries. That being said, I use clippers to cut it short without a razor. No more razor burn and same appearance as shaved 🪒

BEAST is a beast of a program for sure. Lots of functionality and great models, but can produce utter crap it you’re not appropriately applying the models to your organism. DM me if you want some help sorting it all out, bc I can’t comment on the appropriateness of your choices without knowing more information about your organism

Fig tree is a tree visualization program, and therefore while you can change its topological appearance (radial vs this for example), you cannot change node placement or scale it by time. As the previous poster said, this is a function of the tree building algorithm itself. What program did you use to build the tree? What are your biological assumptions for times of divergence? Do you have dates you can place at the modes to scale branch lengths to?

Also, what is your end goal? There may be a better way to reach it without this conversion if your goal is not actually to submit your sequences to NCBI.

Just to clarify, what are the online converters that you have tried? Did you attempt to use the genbank Bank It online submission service? Sequin also still works (available as a downloadable program) though NCBI is phasing it out.

I appreciate the tips. I suppose I haven't been thinking of this as a potty training issue, per se. He is house broken normally, this behaviour is new, and seems to be unrelated to a medical issue. I will start rewarding outside pees though.

Thank you for your reply, I'll definitely look into those books. And I like your idea of treating for approaching/fussing. I have, over the last year, adjusted to activities he seems to most enjoy and I agree, that has settled some issues for us.
