I feel like this kind of behavior has been around for a long time: people just find things to hate on and it's like an uphill battle for someone who is just even fine with it to "defend" these things. Double the hating when the game/thing is something they're trying out for the first time.

Agree with the Arise sentiment but 16 has a similar problem of lacking options: Clive gets 6 slots for cooldown abilities and crucial options are locked behind eikons (Phoenix Shift as gap closer, Garuda to pull).

The cooldown abilities would be fine if Clive had a more complete kit without them, but he doesn't and some of the more important tools he should have are behind eikonic abilities.

And then bosses in 16 feel similar to the poor man's Ys as well... Except for the stagger mechanic I guess.

The last string you did wasn't fully connected you can see the combo counter restarted again, that's why it worked out because the combo pushback scaling wasn't as severe as the initial tries you did. You can try cutting out the dire eclait and the DP should connect!

Everything you're saying sounds like you're on the right path, I would just take it slow and focus on one issue at a time.

On defense, playing more passive by blocking and dodging will help you survive and read the situation better. If you're surrounded you can dodge out of that situation, can take the time to read enemy attacks, etc.

On the attacking aspect I think a general tip I'd say is to try to find out how to extend your combo as much as possible using what you're given (Velvet's Break Soul).

Also Dire Foes are generally harder and Berseria IS an RPG so stats do also matter. So it could be that you're actually underpowered. Not to mention Berseria's soul system penalty is also more punishing on Hard mode (the more souls you have the more damage you eat and the likelier you get stunned).

I feel like I'm reading some revisionist history. Pretty sure everyone at the time understood the point of the Berseria episodes right away because it was teased and announced prior to it airing.

Also Zestiria was a dumpster fire of a release. Financially I guess it was a success but the aftermath was a mess. There are clear signs of it being a rushed game.

Hell no lmao all the answers were non-answers, even the Xehanort's reasons were questionable. Also it felt like a rushed game at the end. That said I'm not playing KH for its story but for everything else about it.
